The placement of ceramic tiles is not a job for the faint of heart, and few things are worse than breathing a sigh of relief for a job well done just to realize that you have spilled the grout. The most common type of grout is actually made of Portland cement, so if the grout has been spilt, it's a race against time to clean it. Portland cement takes a few days to reach its full binding power, so you will have only a small window of time to work with them. Fortunately, you can make the job much sweeter with a simple solution from your own pantry kitchen.
Instructions
1 Remove the largest accumulations of cement grout with the wood tools using a low-rope chipping method. Grasp the handle of the tool with the wrist up and place the flat end of the tool against the grout. Chips in grout to loosen larger parts.
2 fill the gallon jug with water.
3 pour the sugar Cup into the jar, cover and shake until the sugar dissolves.
4 pour the sugar solution into the remaining mortar and cover with a garbage bag.
5 Wait two hours, remove the trash bags and brush with the nylon fiber pads until it is clean.
6 Proceed to scrub the floor as you normally would to clean any remaining sugar solution.
Tips and warnings
- More than one application may be taken to completely remove grout.
- Leave the solution all night if necessary.
- Be very careful when working with water on the ceramic tile as it is very slippery. Pay special attention when working on the white or lighter tile, as it is very difficult to know when it is wet, and slips and falls could cause a wound to be made.
- Never use metal scraping tools or spatulas or you may run the risk of tile cracking.
