How to prevent caries?

One of the most common oral cavity problems in most people is caries. Since childhood, parents say to children: “You can’t eat a lot of sweets, caries will appear!”, “You need to brush your teeth well, otherwise caries will appear!”.
What is this disease?

Caries is the destruction of enamel and dentin of a tooth, which leads to the formation of defects, namely dark spots, the formation of holes and the complete destruction of the tooth. There are 4 stages of caries: the appearance of spots, superficial caries, medium and deep. In order to avoid deplorable consequences, it is necessary to closely monitor the condition of the oral cavity, if you recognize the initial signs of caries in time, it can be eliminated completely simply and painlessly.
What causes caries?

When eating under the influence of enzymes of saliva in the oral cavity, acids are formed, which dissolve the tooth enamel and wash out minerals and salts from it. The surface of the tooth weakens and begins to collapse. If a person does not follow the simplest rules of hygiene, bacteria begin to multiply in the oral cavity, which devour the tooth enamel. Bacteria can contribute to:
• abuse of sugar-containing products, which contain a large amount of fast carbohydrates: sugar, chocolate, flour products, sweet water and juices, which are also overflowed with harmful acids.
• non-systematic or poor-quality teeth cleaning.
• frequent use of antibacterial agents for the oral cavity, which violate the natural microflora.
• malnutrition, in which the consumption of foods rich in calcium, magnesium, phosphorus, potassium is limited.

How to prevent caries?

In order to protect your teeth from unwanted defects, you must follow a few basic rules.
1. Regular visits to the dentist, at least once a year.

If you systematically go to the doctor, you can prevent the emergence of many diseases that will be in the initial stage and not run them to a critical state. The main rule - instant response, then the teeth can be saved and reanimated.
2. Proper oral care.

To maintain a good dental condition, it is not enough just how to clean them. It is necessary to adhere to a special technique, due to which the cleaning will be more thorough, the plaque on the teeth should not remain, otherwise it will lead to the multiplication of bacteria. It is also necessary to properly select hygiene products, namely a toothbrush and toothpaste. They need to choose the state of the gums, the characteristics of tooth enamel. To make the right choice, it is better to consult a doctor.
3. Proper nutrition.

First of all, it is necessary to reduce the consumption of sugar and products containing fast carbohydrates, namely sweets, chocolate, flour products, sugar, and so on. You also need to include in your diet foods rich in minerals and substances: chicken, kefir, cottage cheese, walnuts, seafood, fish, mint, parsley, apples, onions, Chinese cabbage, carrots, celery, pepper, and so on.

Like it or not, a person is attractive with his smile and if the oral cavity and teeth are in good condition, it will have the interlocutors. You must always take care of the health of the oral cavity so that no serious problems arise, for example, the loss of teeth. By following the simple rules, you can ensure a beautiful and healthy smile for yourself for a long time.

What is dangerous caries: how to prevent the disease?

What is the cause of caries? Forewarned is forearmed!
Currently, scientists can definitely name the main culprit for the development of caries - this is the bacterium Streptococcus mutans (Streptococcus mutans). Her activity is found literally in the first days of each child’s life. Of course, simply the presence of bacteria is not enough for the appearance of the disease, therefore, concomitant causes of caries are also distinguished. Failure or poor oral hygiene creates ideal living conditions for Streptococcus mutans, a bacterium that feeds on food particles trapped between teeth. Accelerated the formation of plaque contributes to the love of sweets. On average, 1 mg of plaque contains from 5 to 800 million microbes. If plaque is not removed within a few days, it turns into a dental plaque, which is a 200 micron polymicrobial formation. Further, in the event of a change in microorganisms and an increase in pH, calcium is deposited in the form of phosphorus salts, forming tartar.

Caries can also cause xerostomia - lowering the amount of saliva that can neutralize the acids secreted by harmful bacteria. Among other causes of caries emit: weak immunity of the body, heredity, low content of calcium, fluoride and phosphorus in drinking water. Separately, it is worth noting the comorbid diseases that even being transferred in early childhood, make themselves felt, disrupting the proper formation of dental tissues. Thus, the causes of caries include rickets, tuberculosis, etc.

Thus, the development of caries is influenced by a number of factors, both external (fluorine content in drinking water) and internal (for example, the poor state of the immune and digestive systems are the most common causes of caries).

How does caries appear? Visible and invisible symptoms of caries
The initial stages of caries are sometimes asymptomatic. In other words, a person may not even suspect that changes are already taking place in the tooth enamel. Further symptoms of caries appear as a small white or dark spot. The cause of pigmentation is the leaching of calcium from enamel, or demineralization. As a rule, this process is not accompanied by pain, that is, at an early stage there are very few chances to detect caries. Deeper enamel damage - superficial caries - leads to the formation of a small cavity in the tooth. In this case, there is an increased sensitivity to hot food. Most often, caries appears in the most vulnerable places - in cracks or grooves on the chewing teeth, between the teeth, in the areas of restoration - around old fillings, crowns, and also in the cervical areas.

How does the body fight tooth decay? Ally in the fight for health
Malicious organisms secrete acid, which antibacterial substances of saliva are capable of neutralizing. Forming a thin layer around the teeth and soft tissues, saliva protects the oral cavity from damage. Mineral components of saliva, such as fluoride, calcium, phosphate, help maintain a dynamic balance between enamel and saliva, normalizing the process of remineralization. Tooth enamel has a distinctive property of being saturated with components of saliva, thus, with age, resistance, or resistance, to diseases of caries increases. The protective mechanism of saliva against bacteria are also special substances that prevent the growth of microbes. In other words, our body is constantly fighting for oral health. However, this is not enough to maintain a beautiful and natural smile, you should follow the recommendations of dentists and carefully monitor hygiene. For more information on how to prevent tooth decay, you can at your dentist.

Treatment of caries: there are no hopeless cases!
Despite the fact that the possibilities of modern dentistry allow you to restore the beauty and functional characteristics of teeth, even in the most difficult cases, you should not wait until the last to consult a dentist. It is well known that the earlier the start of diagnosis and treatment, the closer the recovery! Treatment of caries directly depends on the stage of the disease, the characteristics of the body and associated diseases, for example, pulpitis. Uncomplicated forms of caries suggest cleansing the carious cavity and staging the fillings. Deep caries requires a more serious approach, initially a temporary filling is established, which over time is changed to a permanent one. It is important to remember that prevention of caries is based on the prevention of the disease by observing thorough oral hygiene. Sometimes the dentist recommends using special compresses with calcium solutions.

How to protect children's teeth from caries

Caries is easier to prevent than to cure. Even with a bad heredity, if you take the necessary measures in time, you can get completely healthy teeth in a child. For you - the recommendations of a pediatric dentist, periodontist of the clinic "Medissa" Amani Nilab.

The basis of the basics is hygiene.

Not all mothers can properly care for a child’s teeth and can teach their children themselves. Therefore, in order to acquire the right hygiene skills, it is worthwhile to come to a dentist’s consultation. The doctor will tell you how to care for your child’s teeth. He will help you choose a brush and paste for the child.

To begin oral hygiene is necessary before the appearance of the first teeth . It is important to clean the baby's mouth (tongue, cheeks and gums) so that plaque does not form after feeding with breast milk or a mixture and thrush does not develop (a fungal disease in infants). To remove plaque, dip a piece of sterile gauze into distilled or boiled water and gently rub the entire oral mucosa to the child. This procedure should be performed once a day in the evening.

Teeth need to start brushing as soon as the first one appears . The brush for this is selected individually for the first teeth. It is desirable that the doctor participated in the selection of the brush. According to the shape of the teeth of mom and dad, the doctor may suggest what kind of teeth the child will have . The brush is chosen so that its head captures two teeth at once.

Toothpaste is matched by age . As a rule, the first toothpaste is intended for children from 0 to 3 years. Why pasta is chosen strictly according to age? Because it contains fluoride. It is useful and necessary to strengthen the teeth, but it can also be toxic when it accumulates in the body in large quantities. For young children, the allowable amount of fluoride is 500 ppm. With such an amount, even if the child swallows the paste, there will be no consequences. The paste must also contain abrasive, otherwise it will not clean the tooth from plaque.

After cleaning the teeth of the child can not be fed . On the teeth there is a film, which is formed due to saliva. It protects teeth from bacteria, because the whole film deposits on this film. When cleaning the teeth, this film is removed, and if immediately after cleaning to give the child something to eat, the teeth, left without protection, will collapse. Therefore, after brushing your teeth for some time you need to abstain from food, you can only drink water.

Use dental floss . The child is growing up, he has more chewing teeth. Between the teeth there are gaps in which food gets stuck. On these contacts or on the chewing surface most often begins caries. Therefore, dental floss is required for small children. It differs from that used by adults. Children need a special dental floss - superfloss. After brushing your teeth, go to the contacts between the teeth and floss and rinse the mouth.

At some dental clinics, master classes are held where children are taught to brush their teeth using a special technique, painting the movements that are necessary when brushing with a toothbrush. The child through the game remembers the movement of the brush well.

How to protect teeth from caries at the dentist?

In addition to hygiene procedures that should be regularly performed at home, there are methods of caries prevention, which are used by dentists.

To strengthen the front teeth, apply fluoride-containing medication. With chewing teeth, the procedure is different; it is called sealing of fissures. In this procedure, dimples and grooves are sealed on the surface of the chewing teeth, in which plaque often accumulates and caries appears. First, the dentist cleans his teeth, cleaning them of plaque. Then the grooves on the teeth open a thin boron, this removes the remaining plaque. After this, the tooth surface is treated with an antiseptic and sealed with a microfield. This seal is very thin, in the form of a cobweb, the color of the tooth. It protects the tooth from bacteria. After this procedure, you should come to re-admission after 3 months. This is necessary because with the growth of teeth new grooves appear on the chewing surfaces, which also need to be processed.

It is important to combine prophylaxis in a dental office with regular oral hygiene. Unfortunately, prevention, even the highest quality, does not guarantee that caries will not appear. But it significantly reduces the risk of its development.

How to prevent caries

What is caries?

Caries of teeth (lat. Caries dentiis) - in exact translation caries means rotting.

The term caries began to be called the disease of hard tooth tissues, which are manifested in the destruction of enamel and dentin of the tooth. This is the most common dental disease that affects up to 98% of the world's inhabitants. Tooth caries is accompanied by characteristic pain. This disease can be divided into five degrees: not complicated caries, carious spot, superficial caries, medium caries, deep caries.

How is caries formed?

Caries is formed due to acids (as a result of microbial activity), which dissolve the structure of the tooth. When eating foods with a high sugar content, bacteria are vital and produce acid. It should be noted that the bacteria in large quantities are on plaque on the teeth, as well as on the tongue.

How to treat caries?

The sooner you go to the dentist (at the first sign of caries), the easier and cheaper it will be to treat it. Caries treatment is carried out with the obligatory treatment with boron. Then medical treatment and filling of the cavity with a filling material is carried out.

Medium caries treatment is carried out in one session in the dental clinic. Usually deep caries requires repeated visits to rule out the possibility of pulpitis. Sometimes you have to remove a nerve. Deep caries can be treated in one session, but this requires a lot of experience.

It is important to know that properly cured caries will not cause trouble in the future.

How to prevent caries?

You can prevent tooth decay! To do this:

use less sugar or use a sugar substitute;
use sugarless chewing gum;
brush teeth 2 times a day;
use dental floss;
undergo a dental examination at least 2 times a year;
consult with a dentist or independently choose a toothpaste containing fluoride.

Avoid tooth decay: 11 ways to protect our teeth

Caries is not dangerous if it is cured in time, but it is better to avoid the formation of caries and try to keep your teeth healthy.

Why do teeth caries form? Every day, food debris deposits on the inner surface of our teeth and, if not removed in time, they accumulate and destroy the tooth tissue, which leads to the formation of dark spots and subsequently holes. Avoid caries can, if you follow the simple rules and develop good habits.

Children tend to be more prone to caries, as they eat a lot of sweets; however, adults may also suffer from caries, who do not care enough for their teeth.

In this article we will tell you how to prevent the formation of caries.

Why caries is formed?

In the oral cavity, microbes and bacteria accumulate, which multiply, feeding on the remnants of acids and sugar. When the acid acts on the tooth enamel , the tooth tissue is weakened and holes are formed. In this case, you can see black spots on the surface of the teeth - this is caries.

Caries can not be cured with medication or wait until it passes by itself. This will only worsen the situation. The only way to prevent bacteria from “eating tooth tissue” is to remove the damaged tooth piece and fill the empty space with a special paste or amalgam. This can only be done by a dentist.

Caries is not dangerous if it is cured in time, but it is better to try to keep your teeth healthy in order to avoid caries.

These tips will help you teach your children to take care of their teeth from an early age and regularly visit the dentist. So you will save money, time and save children from terrible pain.

Try it yourself to follow our advice and set an example for the younger generation.
Do not eat sugar

Sugar is found in sweets, baked goods, carbonated beverages and convenience foods. It destroys the teeth. Encourage children to eat less sweet and replace cakes with fruit.

Let them have lunch with them: so they will eat less candy and buns at school. It is also very important to brush your teeth thoroughly and use dental floss after sweets.

If they are not at home, advise them to at least drink water and rinse your mouth.

Eat no more than four times a day.

If you constantly eat, then put yourself at risk not only obesity, but also the formation of caries. Divide the daily ration into four meals: breakfast, lunch, snack and dinner.

Do not bite and brush your teeth after every meal.
Brush your teeth properly

It is important to brush your teeth at least twice a day (immediately after waking up and before bedtime). If possible, also brush your teeth after dinner. Proper dental care begins with this habit.

You can carry a spare toothbrush with you to clean your mouth of food debris in time when you are away from home.
Use dental floss

The use of dental floss allows you to get rid of food debris stuck between the teeth, where they can not be reached with a brush.

It is enough to use dental floss once a day, preferably in the evening. Keep the floss box in a clean, dry place.

Use the floss after you have eaten a cookie, cake, porridge with added sugar or breaded food, as all of the above is harmful to your teeth.
Chew food thoroughly

Then the leftover food will not get stuck between your teeth, especially if you are not at home and you do not have dental floss with you.
Drink water with lemon

A great home remedy for tooth decay is lemon. You can dilute a few drops of lemon juice in a glass of water and rinse your mouth with this mixture after brushing your teeth. Sour lemon pH will protect teeth from damage.
Massage the gums

Gently massage the gums in a circular motion or from top to bottom to improve circulation. Then your gums will become stronger, and you can avoid tooth decay and other diseases.

Remember that if the teeth themselves are healthy, bacteria cannot penetrate into them , and no holes are formed in them.
Rinse your mouth

Do you know why in a cafe you usually serve us a glass of water for a cup of coffee or a glass of wine? It helps to get rid of the taste of these drinks, and also serves as an excellent prevention of caries.

After eating certain foods and drinks, it is very important to rinse your mouth . This applies to alcohol, coffee, sour fruits and sweets.
Do not go to bed without brushing your teeth.

Children usually inherit this habit from their parents. Never go to bed without brushing your teeth. Remember that while we sleep, the bacteria eat what we eat during the day.

Even if you are tired and you have a lot of work, you just want to close your eyes and fall asleep, force yourself to take two minutes to brush your teeth.
Eat foods rich in calcium

Calcium is found not only in milk and yogurt, but also in green vegetables such as broccoli, spinach and cabbage. Almonds also contain a lot of calcium.

If you suffer from lactose intolerance, you can buy or cook almond milk .

Eat more fresh fruits and vegetables.

Celery and carrots help to avoid caries, as their fibers perfectly clean off all dirt from the teeth. An apple, eaten with the peel, strengthens the teeth, whitens them and removes stuck food debris. In addition, it is a great dessert that can easily replace buns and pastries.

We treat caries at home: proven methods

For many of us, a visit to the dentist is a very exciting and rather costly process. But serious dental problems can be avoided not only with the help of a dentist. For example, with the help of folk remedies that help keep the oral cavity healthy.

The Internet offers us many ways to prevent tooth decay at home. But are they all equally effective? We chose the most popular recipes and discussed them with a specialist.

WHAT PEOPLE'S METHODS OF PREVENTION OF CARIES WORK

1. Tincture of sage. This method is mentioned on the web most often. They say that with its help you can get rid of bacteria that appear in the mouth two hours after brushing your teeth . To prepare the solution you need to insist a small amount of sage in boiled water for five hours.

“Sage really helps. This is an antiseptic solution that can rinse your mouth. It perfectly affects the teeth and mucous membranes. It can be used a couple of times a day, ”says dentist Louise Avtandilyan.

However, it helps such a tool only at those stages when the caries is on the surface, the expert warns.

What is a healthy lifestyle?
Truth and myths

2. Treatment with propolis. On the Internet, they write that it is enough to put a piece of substance on a bad tooth and hold it for half an hour. Repeat the procedure twice a day.

“Propolis contains nutrients and they also have a good effect on enamel. Propolis effectively fights against the putrefactive bacteria that are found in caries. You can just chew it and hold it in your mouth for 30 minutes, ” says Louise Avtandilyan.

However, this method works only for the prevention of practically healthy teeth . If a black dot appears in place of caries, then it’s time to seek help from a doctor.

3. Laundry soap. Some users believe that the freshly prepared soap solution is extremely beneficial for dental health. It is enough just to rinse their mouth twice a day. What is the therapeutic effect of soap ?

“If you don’t want your mouth to constantly froth, then I don’t recommend this method,” warns the specialist. “Of course, there is a large amount of gamma globulin in the laundry soap, but it can also be found in toothpaste.”

4. Onion peel. This is one of the most ancient folk methods. Tincture of onion peel should be applied several times a day. They say she relieves toothache and disinfects the oral cavity.

“Indeed, onion peel can be insisted in boiling water, passed through a sieve and rinsed mouth twice a day. This method also helps to get rid of putrefactive bacteria, which serves as a good prevention of gum disease. At the same time, you should not be afraid of the fact that teeth may stain, ”the dentist notes.

The specialist confirms that all these methods in one way or another help to fight tooth decay. But not when there is already a hole in the tooth. These are good prevention methods that help get rid of bacteria. However, they do not replace brushing your teeth, but are only an addition to this procedure. And even more so all this does not replace regular visits to the dentist , although it will help reduce their number.

Prevention of caries: 7 products that will help

Caries is the destruction of tooth enamel, which can lead to tooth loss and gum disease, if you do not time to treat it. Caries begins when monosaccharides remain on the surface of the teeth for a long time and provoke the development of pathogenic bacteria that corrode tooth enamel. In addition, the reason may be in the previously installed seals. Those fillings that were made in your youth weaken, crack around the edges as you grow older. Bacteria immediately enter these cracks and wham — caries begins! According to the American Dental Association, the good news is the fact that caries can be prevented by following these four simple steps:

Brush your teeth twice a day with a high fluoride paste;
Daily use dental floss;
Regularly undergo professional cleaning and examination of the oral cavity by a specialist;
Eat nutritious foods and limit sweets.

Despite the fact that the sweet food can provoke the development of caries, there are also products that help you avoid the sound of the drill.

Apples
One apple a day - and you can forget about visiting the dentist. As shown by experimental animal tests, eating apples helps saliva to clean the teeth, and the flavonoids contained in apples stop the growth of bacteria in the mouth.

Cheese
Eating cheese helps improve oral health by preventing demineralization of the teeth; and protein, which is contained in cheese, helps to neutralize the acid, which provokes the appearance of caries. Cheese contains casein - a type of protein that helps remineralize tooth enamel. You do not need to eat kilograms of cheese - only five grams of this product is already effective to prevent caries. One of the latest studies on the relationship between cheese consumption and the development of caries was conducted with the participation of animals. Scientists fed experimental rats bread and Emmental cheese and found that this product lowers the risk of caries.

Cocoa
What do tea, coffee and cocoa have in common? That's right, polyphenols! It is these unique herbal components that play an important role in preventing the development of caries, because they can neutralize the bacteria. Cocoa polyphenols reduce acid secretion by Streptococcus and S.sanguinis bacteria - “bad” bacteria that secrete a caustic acid that burns holes in your teeth. It should be clarified that we need exactly cocoa powder, and not chocolate. Cocoa bean extract was given to rats infected with the streptococcus bacterium. In rats that used cocoa extract, the level of development of bacteria in the mouth and caries was much less.

Cranberry
Flavonoids are known for their antimicrobial effects and seem to be helpful in preventing tooth decay. Cranberries, like many other berries, are incredibly rich in these ingredients and organic acids. The flavonoids contained in cranberries and blueberries prevent bacteria from sticking to the surfaces of the teeth. Studies have shown that cranberries reduce the amount of bacteria that are provoked by the appearance of caries in the saliva.

Peanut
Despite the fact that peanuts and peanut butter contain the same fibers, experts believe that it is the food that needs to be chewed helps to cope with the accumulation of plaque. Peanuts are considered one of the least cariogenic (which causes caries) products.

Black tea
Read about other useful properties of tea here . Tea should be drunk without sugar, because it is sugar that provokes the appearance of caries. Tea contains a lot of flavonols, such as epigallocatechin, and it is they who, as studies have shown, help to stop the growth of "harmful" bacteria. In addition, tea leaves contain fluoride, a mineral that helps maintain oral health by strengthening the mineral component of teeth. You can even brew tea in tap water, which also usually contains fluoride. Researchers at the University of Illinois in Chicago discovered natural chemicals in black tea that stop the release of glucosyltransferase, an enzyme that helps plaque to stick to tooth enamel.

Unsweetened yogurt or kefir
Regular kefir or yogurt mixed with sweet fruit with a high fiber content acts as a kind of toothbrush, thus preventing sugars from sticking to the surface of the teeth. Yogurt contains calcium and phosphorus, which are the most important elements in the remineralization of teeth; often these two minerals are destroyed by acid in the mouth. Kefir is also rich in protein, and is a source of magnesium, riboflavin, folic acid, and vitamin B12. The study, which was attended by 2,058 children aged three years, showed that eating fermented dairy products lowers the risk of caries. The level of acidity in the oral cavity in adults who drink yoghurt, fermented milk and fermented dairy products was closer to normal.

How to prevent caries

In the last issue of the Bulletin of Three Cities, I told you that bacteria are not necessarily the real cause of caries, but only one part of the problem with teeth. This time we promised to write about how simple natural products can support the dental health of your entire family, surprising your dentist! We will start with several biochemical causes of tooth decay, and then tell you how to make your teeth stronger using fat-soluble vitamins and other nutrients.

The balance of calcium and phosphorus - the main factor in the remineralization of teeth

After 30 years of research and 40,000 blood tests, an American dentist named Melvin Paige found that the biochemical cause of caries and gum problems is a violation in the proportion of calcium and phosphorus in the blood. When the proportion of calcium and phosphorus is balanced, then your teeth are protected from caries as they can be successfully remind, as we wrote in the last issue of the Herald of the Three Cities. The normal amount of these minerals should be 8.75 mg of calcium per 100 cubic centimeters of blood, and 3.5 mg of phosphorus per 100 cubic centimeters of blood, that is, in a ratio of 2.5: 1. When the proportion of these two important minerals in the blood deviates from the norm, the body pulls these substances out of the bones. The first thing to do is calcium and phosphorus taken from the teeth, causing caries, gum disease, or both. If you think about it, our body is very clever - it always tries to warn us how it can about more serious problems - what if these minerals were immediately pulled out from the bones of the legs, hands and others, causing osteoporosis? So if the teeth are not in order, then it says that the balance of the body is disturbed and it does everything possible to balance it, even without sparing our teeth. But if we listen to him, we can save our other more important bones and, in addition, improve our teeth.

How is the proportion of calcium and phosphorus in the blood broken?

Melvin Paige also found that when our endocrine glands, that is, those that release different hormones, do not work well, we easily develop caries. In the first part, we also said that another doctor discovered that the mechanism of several glands should work properly so that our teeth would get a mineral-rich dental lymph that reminds them. One of these glands is called the pituitary gland (pituitary gland). One of the roles of the pituitary glands is to control blood sugar levels along with the pancreas. If the pituitary gland cannot properly regulate blood sugar, then it can cause a biochemical imbalance and phosphorus will be pulled out of the bones, which changes its desired proportion with calcium in the blood. One of the important reasons for the lack of pituitary hormones is refined products. In order for the pituitary gland to become good again, it is necessary to limit sweet foods for some time, even such natural fruits as honey.

Another important gland is called the thyroid gland, which has a large role in regulating the level of calcium in the blood. But in order to improve the work of this gland, it is first necessary that the hypotheses work well, as it regulates the thyroid gland. Our reproductive glands also have a role in caries and dental problems — excessive testosterone is associated with inflamed gums and excessive levels of phosphorus in the blood, and excess estrogen can also cause inflammation of the gums.

The importance of vitamins D and A for our teeth

Fat-soluble vitamin D is very necessary for the balance of the proportions of calcium and phosphorus in our blood and for the normal functioning of hormones. Together with fat-soluble vitamin A, vitamin D helps our cells produce a protein called osteocalssin, which is responsible for the deposition of calcium and phosphorus in our bones. So that children and adults suffering from frequent caries can easily return their teeth to health by eating foods rich in these two important substances.

Fish oil and other products that stop caries

Fish oil (cod liver oil) has a good combination of vitamins A and D. Because of this, eating fish oil is the easiest and safest way for your body to get these important vitamins. One teaspoon of high-quality fish oil contains as much vitamin A as 5 liters of milk, or half a kilogram of butter, or 9 eggs.

On the other hand, high-quality fish oil is expensive. Most of the cheap brands of fish oil in stores are not recommended to buy, as they are often refined and natural vitamin A and D are completely exterminated, and then synthetic ones are added.

If you cannot afford natural fish oil at the moment (although it lasts for a long time - you only need half a teaspoon or one teaspoon per day), then vitamins A and D can be obtained from other products. For example, you can include such foods in your daily diet to prevent tooth decay:

Seafood

red salmon (vitamin A and D)

- Ugor (vitamin A)

- fish broth (from fish heads)

- Honey (vitamin D)

- canned sardines

Milk products

- butter and milk, especially from cows which are fed with fresh grass in spring and summer (vitamin A and D)

- cheese, especially goat (vitamin A)

- heated oil (vitamin A)

- home-made kefir

Meat products

- liver - chicken, turkey or beef (vitamin A)

chicken eggs (vitamin A and D)

-ut eggs (much more vitamin D than in chicken)

-salo (vitamin D)

One of the other simple dishes for dental health is homemade meat or fish broths. Homemade soup not only warms us on cold days, but also provides our body with many effective minerals and fat-soluble vitamins that are so important for healthy teeth. It is recommended to drink 1-2 cups of broth per day during the period of healing of teeth and gums. For a long time I wrote a whole article about meat broths in the Bulletin of the Three Cities, so here’s a recipe for making homemade broth from there:

Chicken Broth Recipe

Ingredients:

1 chicken (preferably from the local market), or 1-2 kg of bony parts

hens — necks, backs, wings that can also be bought from butchers in local markets,

3-5 chicken legs (optional - but they add gelatin)

1 bay leaf

5 whole grains of pepper

2 celery stalks, with leaves

2 carrots, peeled

1 onion, cut into 4 pieces

2 cloves of garlic

2 tablespoons of vinegar

Cold water (to fill everything up to the end)

Cooking:

1. Put the chicken or chicken pieces and all the vegetables and spices in a large broth pan and cover with water. Add vinegar and let stand for 30-60 minutes.

How to prevent caries? 5 most important rules of hygiene

The most popular dental disease is caries. It occurs when oral hygiene is not observed, as well as when simple carbohydrates are consumed and even when exposed to the stress state of the body. Food remains stuck between the teeth begin to rot, and bacteria begin to multiply, organic acids are formed, which destroy the tooth enamel and dentin.

You can significantly reduce the risk of caries disease or reduce its damage. We will tell you some simple but useful ways to prevent tooth decay.
Flossing

In addition to the most important procedure - brushing your teeth 2 times a day, you should use dental floss once a day. Whatever cool brush, whether electric or on the control panel, it will not be able to clean out the remnants of food between the teeth perfectly. To do this, you will help dental floss!
Rinse

After each meal, it is advisable to use an antibacterial mouthwash. It will not only clean up the remnants of food, but also refresh your breath. The liquid kills bacteria, the effect will be very long. After rinsing, do not rinse with water, this may reduce the antibacterial effect.
Avoid temperature contrast

A sharp transition from hot tea to cold desserts can create microcracks on your enamel, in which bacteria will then multiply and form caries. It is best to eat room temperature food.
Maintain fluoride in the body

Fluoride is a component of tooth enamel and bone tissue, it is he who gives strength to the outer layer of teeth. If you have problems with tooth sensitivity and caries, this is the first sign that your body lacks fluoride. Use foods that are rich in fluorine, get special rinses that contain fluoride, and you can also fluoridate your teeth.
Frequent visits to the dentist

And of course, you should contact dentistry as often as possible for the premature elimination of a particular dental problem. Children especially need frequent check-ups at the dentist, at least once every 3 months, since children have a much greater risk of caries than adults.

How to prevent caries

Caries is a very common disease. It is estimated that, for example, in Russia, 90-95% of the population has caries. In recent years there has been an increase in the number of "victims" (and how else would you call it) who suffered from caries. This is due to a change in food culture: we began to eat more sugar-containing foods and drinks, and even with the decline in the quality of drinking water.

You must admit that many of us remember our teeth only when they get sick or remind ourselves of bad breath, noticeable holes and black spots. And then we run to the dentist, but this could have been avoided.

Prevention of caries

Measures to prevent tooth decay are quite simple and inexpensive. First, to keep your teeth in order, you should brush them after every meal. It is advisable to do this for 5-15 minutes, since the more time has passed since the last meal, the more chance the pathogenic bacteria will stick to their teeth and start their activities there.

Brush your teeth

Therefore, in order to save yourself from having to brush your teeth 10 times a day, it is better to limit yourself to intermediate snacks, especially if it is something sweet or flour.

If you do not have the opportunity to brush your teeth, rinse your teeth, chew gum, or use floss (dental floss). Floss will not only help to remove the stuck food pieces, but also to clean the teeth from the soft adhered food debris, which is very useful, because caries often develops between the teeth.

Visit to the dentist

For the prevention of caries and other dental diseases, do not forget to be examined by a dentist at least twice a year. He will be able to see caries in the early stages of development and prevent its further spreading over the tooth surface.

Proper nutrition

To make your teeth strong, you need to constantly saturate your body with calcium, consuming dairy products. If you are a sweet tooth, try to limit yourself to sugar, replacing sweets with fruit. Negatively on the health of teeth affected by sweet soda.

The important point is to use the right and suitable toothpaste. Today, the most recommended by dentists is fluoride toothpaste.

Prevent caries is easy, if you follow these instructions, but the treatment - the procedure is unpleasant, often painful and expensive. Think about it the next time you are too lazy to brush your teeth. Be healthy!

How to prevent caries

People who have never encountered the problem of caries are an extremely rare and happy exception. The majority of the population of the Earth knows well what troubles this disease can bring. Of course, caries can be cured, but it is much more expedient to try to prevent its occurrence.
Many factors can contribute to the occurrence of caries - improper diet , hereditary predisposition, unhealthy habits, unfavorable environmental conditions, natural factors (for example, poor water quality).

Most often, caries is visited by those who do not brush their teeth or brush their bad (little or wrong). Teeth require mandatory daily brushing (twice a day). It is often recommended to clean them every time you eat something, but this is not always doable. In this case, you can simply use chewing gum. However, just brushing your teeth regularly is not enough. It is important to do this correctly, otherwise food particles and pathogenic bacteria will remain in various “secluded places”. For such hard-to-reach places it is better to use dental floss.

What kind of toothpaste to choose for brushing your teeth (and how to do it correctly) can be suggested by a dentist. The same paste is not for everyone. By the way, the dentist may recommend not only the type of toothpaste, but also various drugs that help prevent caries, if you need it.

The dentist sometimes recommends sealing the fissures (grooves on the surface of the tooth). In such pits and grooves, bacteria are often concentrated. Therefore, doctors recommend to eliminate this additional risk factor with the help of a special substance - sealant.

Microcracks in tooth enamel can also contribute to the development of caries. They are often formed due to the habit of a person for contrasting food (hot and cold together), so food combinations such as hot coffee with ice cream should be excluded.

At risk are also smokers. Their teeth are constantly under attack from hot smoke and various toxic substances . Smoking is the cause of so many problems that it’s easier once to quit cigarettes than to try to get rid of all the complications that you’ve created all your life.

Another chance to increase your protection from caries is to balance your diet (in particular, include calcium-rich foods like cottage cheese in your diet). But sweets and sugar should be limited (if you really can’t refuse at all).
