How to prevent caries?

One of the most common oral cavity problems in most people is caries. Since childhood, parents say to children: “You can’t eat a lot of sweets, caries will appear!”, “You need to brush your teeth well, otherwise caries will appear!”.
What is this disease?

Caries is the destruction of enamel and dentin of a tooth, which leads to the formation of defects, namely dark spots, the formation of holes and the complete destruction of the tooth. There are 4 stages of caries: the appearance of spots, superficial caries, medium and deep. In order to avoid deplorable consequences, it is necessary to closely monitor the condition of the oral cavity, if you recognize the initial signs of caries in time, it can be eliminated completely simply and painlessly.
What causes caries?

When eating under the influence of enzymes of saliva in the oral cavity, acids are formed, which dissolve the tooth enamel and wash out minerals and salts from it. The surface of the tooth weakens and begins to collapse. If a person does not follow the simplest rules of hygiene, bacteria begin to multiply in the oral cavity, which devour the tooth enamel. Bacteria can contribute to:
• abuse of sugar-containing products, which contain a large amount of fast carbohydrates: sugar, chocolate, flour products, sweet water and juices, which are also overflowed with harmful acids.
• non-systematic or poor-quality teeth cleaning.
• frequent use of antibacterial agents for the oral cavity, which violate the natural microflora.
• malnutrition, in which the consumption of foods rich in calcium, magnesium, phosphorus, potassium is limited.

How to prevent caries?

In order to protect your teeth from unwanted defects, you must follow a few basic rules.
1. Regular visits to the dentist, at least once a year.

If you systematically go to the doctor, you can prevent the emergence of many diseases that will be in the initial stage and not run them to a critical state. The main rule - instant response, then the teeth can be saved and reanimated.
2. Proper oral care.

To maintain a good dental condition, it is not enough just how to clean them. It is necessary to adhere to a special technique, due to which the cleaning will be more thorough, the plaque on the teeth should not remain, otherwise it will lead to the multiplication of bacteria. It is also necessary to properly select hygiene products, namely a toothbrush and toothpaste. They need to choose the state of the gums, the characteristics of tooth enamel. To make the right choice, it is better to consult a doctor.
3. Proper nutrition.

First of all, it is necessary to reduce the consumption of sugar and products containing fast carbohydrates, namely sweets, chocolate, flour products, sugar, and so on. You also need to include in your diet foods rich in minerals and substances: chicken, kefir, cottage cheese, walnuts, seafood, fish, mint, parsley, apples, onions, Chinese cabbage, carrots, celery, pepper, and so on.

Like it or not, a person is attractive with his smile and if the oral cavity and teeth are in good condition, it will have the interlocutors. You must always take care of the health of the oral cavity so that no serious problems arise, for example, the loss of teeth. By following the simple rules, you can ensure a beautiful and healthy smile for yourself for a long time.

What is dangerous caries: how to prevent the disease?

What is the cause of caries? Forewarned is forearmed!
Currently, scientists can definitely name the main culprit for the development of caries - this is the bacterium Streptococcus mutans (Streptococcus mutans). Her activity is found literally in the first days of each child’s life. Of course, simply the presence of bacteria is not enough for the appearance of the disease, therefore, concomitant causes of caries are also distinguished. Failure or poor oral hygiene creates ideal living conditions for Streptococcus mutans, a bacterium that feeds on food particles trapped between teeth. Accelerated the formation of plaque contributes to the love of sweets. On average, 1 mg of plaque contains from 5 to 800 million microbes. If plaque is not removed within a few days, it turns into a dental plaque, which is a 200 micron polymicrobial formation. Further, in the event of a change in microorganisms and an increase in pH, calcium is deposited in the form of phosphorus salts, forming tartar.

Caries can also cause xerostomia - lowering the amount of saliva that can neutralize the acids secreted by harmful bacteria. Among other causes of caries emit: weak immunity of the body, heredity, low content of calcium, fluoride and phosphorus in drinking water. Separately, it is worth noting the comorbid diseases that even being transferred in early childhood, make themselves felt, disrupting the proper formation of dental tissues. Thus, the causes of caries include rickets, tuberculosis, etc.

Thus, the development of caries is influenced by a number of factors, both external (fluorine content in drinking water) and internal (for example, the poor state of the immune and digestive systems are the most common causes of caries).

How does caries appear? Visible and invisible symptoms of caries
The initial stages of caries are sometimes asymptomatic. In other words, a person may not even suspect that changes are already taking place in the tooth enamel. Further symptoms of caries appear as a small white or dark spot. The cause of pigmentation is the leaching of calcium from enamel, or demineralization. As a rule, this process is not accompanied by pain, that is, at an early stage there are very few chances to detect caries. Deeper enamel damage - superficial caries - leads to the formation of a small cavity in the tooth. In this case, there is an increased sensitivity to hot food. Most often, caries appears in the most vulnerable places - in cracks or grooves on the chewing teeth, between the teeth, in the areas of restoration - around old fillings, crowns, and also in the cervical areas.

How does the body fight tooth decay? Ally in the fight for health
Malicious organisms secrete acid, which antibacterial substances of saliva are capable of neutralizing. Forming a thin layer around the teeth and soft tissues, saliva protects the oral cavity from damage. Mineral components of saliva, such as fluoride, calcium, phosphate, help maintain a dynamic balance between enamel and saliva, normalizing the process of remineralization. Tooth enamel has a distinctive property of being saturated with components of saliva, thus, with age, resistance, or resistance, to diseases of caries increases. The protective mechanism of saliva against bacteria are also special substances that prevent the growth of microbes. In other words, our body is constantly fighting for oral health. However, this is not enough to maintain a beautiful and natural smile, you should follow the recommendations of dentists and carefully monitor hygiene. For more information on how to prevent tooth decay, you can at your dentist.

Treatment of caries: there are no hopeless cases!
Despite the fact that the possibilities of modern dentistry allow you to restore the beauty and functional characteristics of teeth, even in the most difficult cases, you should not wait until the last to consult a dentist. It is well known that the earlier the start of diagnosis and treatment, the closer the recovery! Treatment of caries directly depends on the stage of the disease, the characteristics of the body and associated diseases, for example, pulpitis. Uncomplicated forms of caries suggest cleansing the carious cavity and staging the fillings. Deep caries requires a more serious approach, initially a temporary filling is established, which over time is changed to a permanent one. It is important to remember that prevention of caries is based on the prevention of the disease by observing thorough oral hygiene. Sometimes the dentist recommends using special compresses with calcium solutions.

How to protect children's teeth from caries

Caries is easier to prevent than to cure. Even with a bad heredity, if you take the necessary measures in time, you can get completely healthy teeth in a child. For you - the recommendations of a pediatric dentist, periodontist of the clinic "Medissa" Amani Nilab.

The basis of the basics is hygiene.

Not all mothers can properly care for a child’s teeth and can teach their children themselves. Therefore, in order to acquire the right hygiene skills, it is worthwhile to come to a dentist’s consultation. The doctor will tell you how to care for your child’s teeth. He will help you choose a brush and paste for the child.

To begin oral hygiene is necessary before the appearance of the first teeth . It is important to clean the baby's mouth (tongue, cheeks and gums) so that plaque does not form after feeding with breast milk or a mixture and thrush does not develop (a fungal disease in infants). To remove plaque, dip a piece of sterile gauze into distilled or boiled water and gently rub the entire oral mucosa to the child. This procedure should be performed once a day in the evening.

Teeth need to start brushing as soon as the first one appears . The brush for this is selected individually for the first teeth. It is desirable that the doctor participated in the selection of the brush. According to the shape of the teeth of mom and dad, the doctor may suggest what kind of teeth the child will have . The brush is chosen so that its head captures two teeth at once.

Toothpaste is matched by age . As a rule, the first toothpaste is intended for children from 0 to 3 years. Why pasta is chosen strictly according to age? Because it contains fluoride. It is useful and necessary to strengthen the teeth, but it can also be toxic when it accumulates in the body in large quantities. For young children, the allowable amount of fluoride is 500 ppm. With such an amount, even if the child swallows the paste, there will be no consequences. The paste must also contain abrasive, otherwise it will not clean the tooth from plaque.

After cleaning the teeth of the child can not be fed . On the teeth there is a film, which is formed due to saliva. It protects teeth from bacteria, because the whole film deposits on this film. When cleaning the teeth, this film is removed, and if immediately after cleaning to give the child something to eat, the teeth, left without protection, will collapse. Therefore, after brushing your teeth for some time you need to abstain from food, you can only drink water.

Use dental floss . The child is growing up, he has more chewing teeth. Between the teeth there are gaps in which food gets stuck. On these contacts or on the chewing surface most often begins caries. Therefore, dental floss is required for small children. It differs from that used by adults. Children need a special dental floss - superfloss. After brushing your teeth, go to the contacts between the teeth and floss and rinse the mouth.

At some dental clinics, master classes are held where children are taught to brush their teeth using a special technique, painting the movements that are necessary when brushing with a toothbrush. The child through the game remembers the movement of the brush well.

How to protect teeth from caries at the dentist?

In addition to hygiene procedures that should be regularly performed at home, there are methods of caries prevention, which are used by dentists.

To strengthen the front teeth, apply fluoride-containing medication. With chewing teeth, the procedure is different; it is called sealing of fissures. In this procedure, dimples and grooves are sealed on the surface of the chewing teeth, in which plaque often accumulates and caries appears. First, the dentist cleans his teeth, cleaning them of plaque. Then the grooves on the teeth open a thin boron, this removes the remaining plaque. After this, the tooth surface is treated with an antiseptic and sealed with a microfield. This seal is very thin, in the form of a cobweb, the color of the tooth. It protects the tooth from bacteria. After this procedure, you should come to re-admission after 3 months. This is necessary because with the growth of teeth new grooves appear on the chewing surfaces, which also need to be processed.

It is important to combine prophylaxis in a dental office with regular oral hygiene. Unfortunately, prevention, even the highest quality, does not guarantee that caries will not appear. But it significantly reduces the risk of its development.

How to prevent caries

What is caries?

Caries of teeth (lat. Caries dentiis) - in exact translation caries means rotting.

The term caries began to be called the disease of hard tooth tissues, which are manifested in the destruction of enamel and dentin of the tooth. This is the most common dental disease that affects up to 98% of the world's inhabitants. Tooth caries is accompanied by characteristic pain. This disease can be divided into five degrees: not complicated caries, carious spot, superficial caries, medium caries, deep caries.

How is caries formed?

Caries is formed due to acids (as a result of microbial activity), which dissolve the structure of the tooth. When eating foods with a high sugar content, bacteria are vital and produce acid. It should be noted that the bacteria in large quantities are on plaque on the teeth, as well as on the tongue.

How to treat caries?

The sooner you go to the dentist (at the first sign of caries), the easier and cheaper it will be to treat it. Caries treatment is carried out with the obligatory treatment with boron. Then medical treatment and filling of the cavity with a filling material is carried out.

Medium caries treatment is carried out in one session in the dental clinic. Usually deep caries requires repeated visits to rule out the possibility of pulpitis. Sometimes you have to remove a nerve. Deep caries can be treated in one session, but this requires a lot of experience.

It is important to know that properly cured caries will not cause trouble in the future.

How to prevent caries?

You can prevent tooth decay! To do this:

use less sugar or use a sugar substitute;
use sugarless chewing gum;
brush teeth 2 times a day;
use dental floss;
undergo a dental examination at least 2 times a year;
consult with a dentist or independently choose a toothpaste containing fluoride.

Avoid tooth decay: 11 ways to protect our teeth

Caries is not dangerous if it is cured in time, but it is better to avoid the formation of caries and try to keep your teeth healthy.

Why do teeth caries form? Every day, food debris deposits on the inner surface of our teeth and, if not removed in time, they accumulate and destroy the tooth tissue, which leads to the formation of dark spots and subsequently holes. Avoid caries can, if you follow the simple rules and develop good habits.

Children tend to be more prone to caries, as they eat a lot of sweets; however, adults may also suffer from caries, who do not care enough for their teeth.

In this article we will tell you how to prevent the formation of caries.

Why caries is formed?

In the oral cavity, microbes and bacteria accumulate, which multiply, feeding on the remnants of acids and sugar. When the acid acts on the tooth enamel , the tooth tissue is weakened and holes are formed. In this case, you can see black spots on the surface of the teeth - this is caries.

Caries can not be cured with medication or wait until it passes by itself. This will only worsen the situation. The only way to prevent bacteria from “eating tooth tissue” is to remove the damaged tooth piece and fill the empty space with a special paste or amalgam. This can only be done by a dentist.

Caries is not dangerous if it is cured in time, but it is better to try to keep your teeth healthy in order to avoid caries.

These tips will help you teach your children to take care of their teeth from an early age and regularly visit the dentist. So you will save money, time and save children from terrible pain.

Try it yourself to follow our advice and set an example for the younger generation.
Do not eat sugar

Sugar is found in sweets, baked goods, carbonated beverages and convenience foods. It destroys the teeth. Encourage children to eat less sweet and replace cakes with fruit.

Let them have lunch with them: so they will eat less candy and buns at school. It is also very important to brush your teeth thoroughly and use dental floss after sweets.

If they are not at home, advise them to at least drink water and rinse your mouth.

Eat no more than four times a day.

If you constantly eat, then put yourself at risk not only obesity, but also the formation of caries. Divide the daily ration into four meals: breakfast, lunch, snack and dinner.

Do not bite and brush your teeth after every meal.
Brush your teeth properly

It is important to brush your teeth at least twice a day (immediately after waking up and before bedtime). If possible, also brush your teeth after dinner. Proper dental care begins with this habit.

You can carry a spare toothbrush with you to clean your mouth of food debris in time when you are away from home.
Use dental floss

The use of dental floss allows you to get rid of food debris stuck between the teeth, where they can not be reached with a brush.

It is enough to use dental floss once a day, preferably in the evening. Keep the floss box in a clean, dry place.

Use the floss after you have eaten a cookie, cake, porridge with added sugar or breaded food, as all of the above is harmful to your teeth.
Chew food thoroughly

Then the leftover food will not get stuck between your teeth, especially if you are not at home and you do not have dental floss with you.
Drink water with lemon

A great home remedy for tooth decay is lemon. You can dilute a few drops of lemon juice in a glass of water and rinse your mouth with this mixture after brushing your teeth. Sour lemon pH will protect teeth from damage.
Massage the gums

Gently massage the gums in a circular motion or from top to bottom to improve circulation. Then your gums will become stronger, and you can avoid tooth decay and other diseases.

Remember that if the teeth themselves are healthy, bacteria cannot penetrate into them , and no holes are formed in them.
Rinse your mouth

Do you know why in a cafe you usually serve us a glass of water for a cup of coffee or a glass of wine? It helps to get rid of the taste of these drinks, and also serves as an excellent prevention of caries.

After eating certain foods and drinks, it is very important to rinse your mouth . This applies to alcohol, coffee, sour fruits and sweets.
Do not go to bed without brushing your teeth.

Children usually inherit this habit from their parents. Never go to bed without brushing your teeth. Remember that while we sleep, the bacteria eat what we eat during the day.

Even if you are tired and you have a lot of work, you just want to close your eyes and fall asleep, force yourself to take two minutes to brush your teeth.
Eat foods rich in calcium

Calcium is found not only in milk and yogurt, but also in green vegetables such as broccoli, spinach and cabbage. Almonds also contain a lot of calcium.

If you suffer from lactose intolerance, you can buy or cook almond milk .

Eat more fresh fruits and vegetables.

Celery and carrots help to avoid caries, as their fibers perfectly clean off all dirt from the teeth. An apple, eaten with the peel, strengthens the teeth, whitens them and removes stuck food debris. In addition, it is a great dessert that can easily replace buns and pastries.

We treat caries at home: proven methods

For many of us, a visit to the dentist is a very exciting and rather costly process. But serious dental problems can be avoided not only with the help of a dentist. For example, with the help of folk remedies that help keep the oral cavity healthy.

The Internet offers us many ways to prevent tooth decay at home. But are they all equally effective? We chose the most popular recipes and discussed them with a specialist.

WHAT PEOPLE'S METHODS OF PREVENTION OF CARIES WORK

1. Tincture of sage. This method is mentioned on the web most often. They say that with its help you can get rid of bacteria that appear in the mouth two hours after brushing your teeth . To prepare the solution you need to insist a small amount of sage in boiled water for five hours.

“Sage really helps. This is an antiseptic solution that can rinse your mouth. It perfectly affects the teeth and mucous membranes. It can be used a couple of times a day, ”says dentist Louise Avtandilyan.

However, it helps such a tool only at those stages when the caries is on the surface, the expert warns.

What is a healthy lifestyle?
Truth and myths

2. Treatment with propolis. On the Internet, they write that it is enough to put a piece of substance on a bad tooth and hold it for half an hour. Repeat the procedure twice a day.

“Propolis contains nutrients and they also have a good effect on enamel. Propolis effectively fights against the putrefactive bacteria that are found in caries. You can just chew it and hold it in your mouth for 30 minutes, ” says Louise Avtandilyan.

However, this method works only for the prevention of practically healthy teeth . If a black dot appears in place of caries, then it’s time to seek help from a doctor.

3. Laundry soap. Some users believe that the freshly prepared soap solution is extremely beneficial for dental health. It is enough just to rinse their mouth twice a day. What is the therapeutic effect of soap ?

“If you don’t want your mouth to constantly froth, then I don’t recommend this method,” warns the specialist. “Of course, there is a large amount of gamma globulin in the laundry soap, but it can also be found in toothpaste.”

4. Onion peel. This is one of the most ancient folk methods. Tincture of onion peel should be applied several times a day. They say she relieves toothache and disinfects the oral cavity.

“Indeed, onion peel can be insisted in boiling water, passed through a sieve and rinsed mouth twice a day. This method also helps to get rid of putrefactive bacteria, which serves as a good prevention of gum disease. At the same time, you should not be afraid of the fact that teeth may stain, ”the dentist notes.

The specialist confirms that all these methods in one way or another help to fight tooth decay. But not when there is already a hole in the tooth. These are good prevention methods that help get rid of bacteria. However, they do not replace brushing your teeth, but are only an addition to this procedure. And even more so all this does not replace regular visits to the dentist , although it will help reduce their number.

Prevention of caries: 7 products that will help

Caries is the destruction of tooth enamel, which can lead to tooth loss and gum disease, if you do not time to treat it. Caries begins when monosaccharides remain on the surface of the teeth for a long time and provoke the development of pathogenic bacteria that corrode tooth enamel. In addition, the reason may be in the previously installed seals. Those fillings that were made in your youth weaken, crack around the edges as you grow older. Bacteria immediately enter these cracks and wham — caries begins! According to the American Dental Association, the good news is the fact that caries can be prevented by following these four simple steps:

Brush your teeth twice a day with a high fluoride paste;
Daily use dental floss;
Regularly undergo professional cleaning and examination of the oral cavity by a specialist;
Eat nutritious foods and limit sweets.

Despite the fact that the sweet food can provoke the development of caries, there are also products that help you avoid the sound of the drill.

Apples
One apple a day - and you can forget about visiting the dentist. As shown by experimental animal tests, eating apples helps saliva to clean the teeth, and the flavonoids contained in apples stop the growth of bacteria in the mouth.

Cheese
Eating cheese helps improve oral health by preventing demineralization of the teeth; and protein, which is contained in cheese, helps to neutralize the acid, which provokes the appearance of caries. Cheese contains casein - a type of protein that helps remineralize tooth enamel. You do not need to eat kilograms of cheese - only five grams of this product is already effective to prevent caries. One of the latest studies on the relationship between cheese consumption and the development of caries was conducted with the participation of animals. Scientists fed experimental rats bread and Emmental cheese and found that this product lowers the risk of caries.

Cocoa
What do tea, coffee and cocoa have in common? That's right, polyphenols! It is these unique herbal components that play an important role in preventing the development of caries, because they can neutralize the bacteria. Cocoa polyphenols reduce acid secretion by Streptococcus and S.sanguinis bacteria - “bad” bacteria that secrete a caustic acid that burns holes in your teeth. It should be clarified that we need exactly cocoa powder, and not chocolate. Cocoa bean extract was given to rats infected with the streptococcus bacterium. In rats that used cocoa extract, the level of development of bacteria in the mouth and caries was much less.

Cranberry
Flavonoids are known for their antimicrobial effects and seem to be helpful in preventing tooth decay. Cranberries, like many other berries, are incredibly rich in these ingredients and organic acids. The flavonoids contained in cranberries and blueberries prevent bacteria from sticking to the surfaces of the teeth. Studies have shown that cranberries reduce the amount of bacteria that are provoked by the appearance of caries in the saliva.

Peanut
Despite the fact that peanuts and peanut butter contain the same fibers, experts believe that it is the food that needs to be chewed helps to cope with the accumulation of plaque. Peanuts are considered one of the least cariogenic (which causes caries) products.

Black tea
Read about other useful properties of tea here . Tea should be drunk without sugar, because it is sugar that provokes the appearance of caries. Tea contains a lot of flavonols, such as epigallocatechin, and it is they who, as studies have shown, help to stop the growth of "harmful" bacteria. In addition, tea leaves contain fluoride, a mineral that helps maintain oral health by strengthening the mineral component of teeth. You can even brew tea in tap water, which also usually contains fluoride. Researchers at the University of Illinois in Chicago discovered natural chemicals in black tea that stop the release of glucosyltransferase, an enzyme that helps plaque to stick to tooth enamel.

Unsweetened yogurt or kefir
Regular kefir or yogurt mixed with sweet fruit with a high fiber content acts as a kind of toothbrush, thus preventing sugars from sticking to the surface of the teeth. Yogurt contains calcium and phosphorus, which are the most important elements in the remineralization of teeth; often these two minerals are destroyed by acid in the mouth. Kefir is also rich in protein, and is a source of magnesium, riboflavin, folic acid, and vitamin B12. The study, which was attended by 2,058 children aged three years, showed that eating fermented dairy products lowers the risk of caries. The level of acidity in the oral cavity in adults who drink yoghurt, fermented milk and fermented dairy products was closer to normal.

How to prevent caries

In the last issue of the Bulletin of Three Cities, I told you that bacteria are not necessarily the real cause of caries, but only one part of the problem with teeth. This time we promised to write about how simple natural products can support the dental health of your entire family, surprising your dentist! We will start with several biochemical causes of tooth decay, and then tell you how to make your teeth stronger using fat-soluble vitamins and other nutrients.

The balance of calcium and phosphorus - the main factor in the remineralization of teeth

After 30 years of research and 40,000 blood tests, an American dentist named Melvin Paige found that the biochemical cause of caries and gum problems is a violation in the proportion of calcium and phosphorus in the blood. When the proportion of calcium and phosphorus is balanced, then your teeth are protected from caries as they can be successfully remind, as we wrote in the last issue of the Herald of the Three Cities. The normal amount of these minerals should be 8.75 mg of calcium per 100 cubic centimeters of blood, and 3.5 mg of phosphorus per 100 cubic centimeters of blood, that is, in a ratio of 2.5: 1. When the proportion of these two important minerals in the blood deviates from the norm, the body pulls these substances out of the bones. The first thing to do is calcium and phosphorus taken from the teeth, causing caries, gum disease, or both. If you think about it, our body is very clever - it always tries to warn us how it can about more serious problems - what if these minerals were immediately pulled out from the bones of the legs, hands and others, causing osteoporosis? So if the teeth are not in order, then it says that the balance of the body is disturbed and it does everything possible to balance it, even without sparing our teeth. But if we listen to him, we can save our other more important bones and, in addition, improve our teeth.

How is the proportion of calcium and phosphorus in the blood broken?

Melvin Paige also found that when our endocrine glands, that is, those that release different hormones, do not work well, we easily develop caries. In the first part, we also said that another doctor discovered that the mechanism of several glands should work properly so that our teeth would get a mineral-rich dental lymph that reminds them. One of these glands is called the pituitary gland (pituitary gland). One of the roles of the pituitary glands is to control blood sugar levels along with the pancreas. If the pituitary gland cannot properly regulate blood sugar, then it can cause a biochemical imbalance and phosphorus will be pulled out of the bones, which changes its desired proportion with calcium in the blood. One of the important reasons for the lack of pituitary hormones is refined products. In order for the pituitary gland to become good again, it is necessary to limit sweet foods for some time, even such natural fruits as honey.

Another important gland is called the thyroid gland, which has a large role in regulating the level of calcium in the blood. But in order to improve the work of this gland, it is first necessary that the hypotheses work well, as it regulates the thyroid gland. Our reproductive glands also have a role in caries and dental problems — excessive testosterone is associated with inflamed gums and excessive levels of phosphorus in the blood, and excess estrogen can also cause inflammation of the gums.

The importance of vitamins D and A for our teeth

Fat-soluble vitamin D is very necessary for the balance of the proportions of calcium and phosphorus in our blood and for the normal functioning of hormones. Together with fat-soluble vitamin A, vitamin D helps our cells produce a protein called osteocalssin, which is responsible for the deposition of calcium and phosphorus in our bones. So that children and adults suffering from frequent caries can easily return their teeth to health by eating foods rich in these two important substances.

Fish oil and other products that stop caries

Fish oil (cod liver oil) has a good combination of vitamins A and D. Because of this, eating fish oil is the easiest and safest way for your body to get these important vitamins. One teaspoon of high-quality fish oil contains as much vitamin A as 5 liters of milk, or half a kilogram of butter, or 9 eggs.

On the other hand, high-quality fish oil is expensive. Most of the cheap brands of fish oil in stores are not recommended to buy, as they are often refined and natural vitamin A and D are completely exterminated, and then synthetic ones are added.

If you cannot afford natural fish oil at the moment (although it lasts for a long time - you only need half a teaspoon or one teaspoon per day), then vitamins A and D can be obtained from other products. For example, you can include such foods in your daily diet to prevent tooth decay:

Seafood

red salmon (vitamin A and D)

- Ugor (vitamin A)

- fish broth (from fish heads)

- Honey (vitamin D)

- canned sardines

Milk products

- butter and milk, especially from cows which are fed with fresh grass in spring and summer (vitamin A and D)

- cheese, especially goat (vitamin A)

- heated oil (vitamin A)

- home-made kefir

Meat products

- liver - chicken, turkey or beef (vitamin A)

chicken eggs (vitamin A and D)

-ut eggs (much more vitamin D than in chicken)

-salo (vitamin D)

One of the other simple dishes for dental health is homemade meat or fish broths. Homemade soup not only warms us on cold days, but also provides our body with many effective minerals and fat-soluble vitamins that are so important for healthy teeth. It is recommended to drink 1-2 cups of broth per day during the period of healing of teeth and gums. For a long time I wrote a whole article about meat broths in the Bulletin of the Three Cities, so here’s a recipe for making homemade broth from there:

Chicken Broth Recipe

Ingredients:

1 chicken (preferably from the local market), or 1-2 kg of bony parts

hens — necks, backs, wings that can also be bought from butchers in local markets,

3-5 chicken legs (optional - but they add gelatin)

1 bay leaf

5 whole grains of pepper

2 celery stalks, with leaves

2 carrots, peeled

1 onion, cut into 4 pieces

2 cloves of garlic

2 tablespoons of vinegar

Cold water (to fill everything up to the end)

Cooking:

1. Put the chicken or chicken pieces and all the vegetables and spices in a large broth pan and cover with water. Add vinegar and let stand for 30-60 minutes.

2. Bring to a boil and remove the foam.

3. Switch to slow fire, close the pan with a lid and let it cook for 6-24 hours. The longer - the tastier and richer the nutrients will be the broth!

4. When the broth is ready, remove the chicken from it, let it cool, then strain.

5. Allow to cool, then refrigerate so that the fat rises up and can be removed.

6. Now he is ready - you can make your favorite soups from him, cook rice in it or make different sauces.

7. Broth can be kept for 2 days in the refrigerator and up to 6 months in the freezer.

In conclusion, I want to add that it is not necessary to be a victim of caries. Modern dentistry in many cases treats only the symptoms of dental diseases, but can not cure caries. The best, but certainly not simple, is to become responsible for the health of your and your children's teeth. Strong, beautiful teeth that do not destroy caries are quite possible to get using the tasty, rich in vitamins and minerals food that nature provides us!

How to prevent caries? 5 most important rules of hygiene

The most popular dental disease is caries. It occurs when oral hygiene is not observed, as well as when simple carbohydrates are consumed and even when exposed to the stress state of the body. Food remains stuck between the teeth begin to rot, and bacteria begin to multiply, organic acids are formed, which destroy the tooth enamel and dentin.

You can significantly reduce the risk of caries disease or reduce its damage. We will tell you some simple but useful ways to prevent tooth decay.
Flossing

In addition to the most important procedure - brushing your teeth 2 times a day, you should use dental floss once a day. Whatever cool brush, whether electric or on the control panel, it will not be able to clean out the remnants of food between the teeth perfectly. To do this, you will help dental floss!
Rinse

After each meal, it is advisable to use an antibacterial mouthwash. It will not only clean up the remnants of food, but also refresh your breath. The liquid kills bacteria, the effect will be very long. After rinsing, do not rinse with water, this may reduce the antibacterial effect.
Avoid temperature contrast

A sharp transition from hot tea to cold desserts can create microcracks on your enamel, in which bacteria will then multiply and form caries. It is best to eat room temperature food.
Maintain fluoride in the body

Fluoride is a component of tooth enamel and bone tissue, it is he who gives strength to the outer layer of teeth. If you have problems with tooth sensitivity and caries, this is the first sign that your body lacks fluoride. Use foods that are rich in fluorine, get special rinses that contain fluoride, and you can also fluoridate your teeth.
Frequent visits to the dentist

And of course, you should contact dentistry as often as possible for the premature elimination of a particular dental problem. Children especially need frequent check-ups at the dentist, at least once every 3 months, since children have a much greater risk of caries than adults.

How to prevent caries

Caries is a very common disease. It is estimated that, for example, in Russia, 90-95% of the population has caries. In recent years there has been an increase in the number of "victims" (and how else would you call it) who suffered from caries. This is due to a change in food culture: we began to eat more sugar-containing foods and drinks, and even with the decline in the quality of drinking water.

You must admit that many of us remember our teeth only when they get sick or remind ourselves of bad breath, noticeable holes and black spots. And then we run to the dentist, but this could have been avoided.

Prevention of caries

Measures to prevent tooth decay are quite simple and inexpensive. First, to keep your teeth in order, you should brush them after every meal. It is advisable to do this for 5-15 minutes, since the more time has passed since the last meal, the more chance the pathogenic bacteria will stick to their teeth and start their activities there.

Brush your teeth

Therefore, in order to save yourself from having to brush your teeth 10 times a day, it is better to limit yourself to intermediate snacks, especially if it is something sweet or flour.

If you do not have the opportunity to brush your teeth, rinse your teeth, chew gum, or use floss (dental floss). Floss will not only help to remove the stuck food pieces, but also to clean the teeth from the soft adhered food debris, which is very useful, because caries often develops between the teeth.

Visit to the dentist

For the prevention of caries and other dental diseases, do not forget to be examined by a dentist at least twice a year. He will be able to see caries in the early stages of development and prevent its further spreading over the tooth surface.

Proper nutrition

To make your teeth strong, you need to constantly saturate your body with calcium, consuming dairy products. If you are a sweet tooth, try to limit yourself to sugar, replacing sweets with fruit. Negatively on the health of teeth affected by sweet soda.

The important point is to use the right and suitable toothpaste. Today, the most recommended by dentists is fluoride toothpaste.

Prevent caries is easy, if you follow these instructions, but the treatment - the procedure is unpleasant, often painful and expensive. Think about it the next time you are too lazy to brush your teeth. Be healthy!

How to prevent caries

People who have never encountered the problem of caries are an extremely rare and happy exception. The majority of the population of the Earth knows well what troubles this disease can bring. Of course, caries can be cured, but it is much more expedient to try to prevent its occurrence.
Many factors can contribute to the occurrence of caries - improper diet , hereditary predisposition, unhealthy habits, unfavorable environmental conditions, natural factors (for example, poor water quality).

Most often, caries is visited by those who do not brush their teeth or brush their bad (little or wrong). Teeth require mandatory daily brushing (twice a day). It is often recommended to clean them every time you eat something, but this is not always doable. In this case, you can simply use chewing gum. However, just brushing your teeth regularly is not enough. It is important to do this correctly, otherwise food particles and pathogenic bacteria will remain in various “secluded places”. For such hard-to-reach places it is better to use dental floss.

What kind of toothpaste to choose for brushing your teeth (and how to do it correctly) can be suggested by a dentist. The same paste is not for everyone. By the way, the dentist may recommend not only the type of toothpaste, but also various drugs that help prevent caries, if you need it.

The dentist sometimes recommends sealing the fissures (grooves on the surface of the tooth). In such pits and grooves, bacteria are often concentrated. Therefore, doctors recommend to eliminate this additional risk factor with the help of a special substance - sealant.

Microcracks in tooth enamel can also contribute to the development of caries. They are often formed due to the habit of a person for contrasting food (hot and cold together), so food combinations such as hot coffee with ice cream should be excluded.

At risk are also smokers. Their teeth are constantly under attack from hot smoke and various toxic substances . Smoking is the cause of so many problems that it’s easier once to quit cigarettes than to try to get rid of all the complications that you’ve created all your life.

Another chance to increase your protection from caries is to balance your diet (in particular, include calcium-rich foods like cottage cheese in your diet). But sweets and sugar should be limited (if you really can’t refuse at all).

Prevention of caries - how to stop and prevent caries

Preventing caries is the fastest and most affordable way to a healthy, radiant smile. After all, it is because of caries that most of the problems with the teeth arise. And we all know that prevention of caries should be started from childhood, taking care of your teeth.
Depending on the depth of the lesion, there are two types of caries:

Uncomplicated caries:

the stage of a stain is the easiest form of caries, a slightly noticeable spot on the tooth surface. At this stage, the person does not feel any discomfort and may not even guess about this disease.
surface caries - tooth enamel becomes rough. Under the action of mechanical or thermal stimuli, a person feels short-term pain.

Complicated tooth decay.
If caries is not cured at the stage of deep caries, it develops into a more serious and unpleasant disease called pulpitis. Caries differs from pulpitis by the fact that caries causes destruction of hard tissues without inflammation of the pulp. Pulp is a neurovascular bundle in the mouth. Inflammation of the pulp is accompanied by aching acute or chronic pain.

There are two methods for the prevention of caries:

Local method - aimed at improving hygiene.
The general method is aimed at improving the food culture.
To begin, consider the local method of caries prevention. It also has several sub-items.

1. Oral hygiene. This is the easiest and most proven method, the efficiency of which is almost 100%. The concept of oral hygiene includes:
Brushing your teeth after every meal (breakfast, lunch, snack, dinner). It is very important to brush your teeth thoroughly during the first five minutes after eating. It has been observed that during the first 40 minutes the most detrimental effect on the oral cavity of food and microorganism remains occurs. It is also worth refusing snacking, for example, with a candy or a bun, since after such snacking you should also carefully brush your teeth.
Use dental floss. It is recommended to clean the tooth with dental floss after every meal. This is done before brushing and brushing your teeth. Your dental doctor can teach you how to clean your teeth with floss. The purpose of such cleaning is to remove stuck food between your teeth.

2. Fluoride prophylaxis - saturation of tooth enamel with mineral elements. Photo prophylaxis differs at home (held at home) and professional.
Home photo prevention is to brush your teeth with a toothpaste containing fluoride. Also at home you can use fluoride rinses, which are presented in pharmacies and hypermarkets.
Professional dental treatment is that a varnish containing fluoride is applied to the cleaned and dried enamel of the teeth with a brush. Within a few hours, fluoride penetrates the enamel of the teeth, and the film dissolves.
The general method of prevention is also divided into several stages. First, as we mentioned above, it is worth refusing snacking between meals. The second, no less important aspect is vitamin therapy. The use of vitamins against caries is not as widespread, but it is believed that vitamins such as B1 and B6 have an anti-caries effect.
It is not excluded the possibility that in the near future, scientists will develop and vaccination against caries. Over this work for more than one year, but so far no effective results have been achieved.

How to prevent caries?
Scientists have identified a number of useful products that can prevent tooth decay.
Cheese. After you have eaten, something sweet is worth eating it with a small piece of low-fat cheese. It stimulates the formation of saliva, which neutralizes acid. It is also noted that in the cheese there are a number of useful substances that prevent tooth enamel from being destroyed.
Solid fruits and vegetables. It is proved that these products slow down the process of tooth decay. Due to their composition, they scrape off some of the bacteria and tartar.
Yogurt. Natural fat-free yoghurt is an excellent source of calcium.
Hot pepper. Salivation begins to stand out from hot peppers, it neutralizes the tooth enamel and cleans the teeth.

How to stop and prevent tooth decay? Very simple! It is necessary to be careful with food sticking to the teeth, it can be bananas and raisins. Of course, they are useful for your body, but not for the teeth. We do not urge you to immediately abandon these products. The main thing is to brush or rinse your teeth after every meal.

How to protect your teeth from caries?
In the 600th century BC, India fought dental parasites with mouthwash with solutions of mustard, ginger, or alkaline ash. It is interesting that in ancient Chinese language the hieroglyph designating caries is depicted with the help of a worm on the top of the tooth, and henbane is mentioned as the main component for toothpaste. Such toothpastes used in Egypt, Greece, Rome, the Middle East and Central Asia.
We also dare to note that the bacteria that have got accustomed in the mouth are very large sweets. Therefore, we recommend reducing the consumption of sugary drinks and food. Scientists have noticed that people who refuse sweet, almost never face tooth decay.
Caries causes the most destructive effect within twenty or forty minutes after eating, therefore after each meal it is recommended to brush your teeth and paste. The degree of tooth decay is directly proportional to the amount of sugar consumed. Also, after each meal, you can rinse your mouth with a weak salt solution.
Also for the prevention of caries, it is recommended to chew propolis or wasabi, which reduce the number of parasites in the oral cavity. Wasabi is not used in Russian cuisine; you can find it in a sushi bar or specialized Japanese food stores.
If you adhere to these few rules, we are sure that even a Hollywood star will be envied by your smile!

How to prevent the occurrence of caries

Prevention of caries

Everyone knows about caries. Small black specks on the enamel surface eventually penetrate deeper and lead to tooth decay. This is only one type of disease. Internal caries is more dangerous because it can be detected already at the stage of destruction of the tooth structure. With the problem of caries, we begin to fight since childhood, and even those who have a healthy enamel, at least once in their lives, but will have to seek help from a dentist. In order for this to happen as late as possible, you should follow some simple guidelines for caring for your mouth.

Recipes of traditional medicine

For the prevention of caries use onions and garlic. As a rule, onions or garlic heads rub teeth and gums, which creates a certain protection for enamel, kills dangerous bacteria and closes micro cracks in the enamel. The same effect gives rubbing a piece of horseradish. In order to relieve inflammation of the gums, it is recommended to rinse the mouth with a tincture of sage. Chamomile is especially popular in the fight against caries. Decoctions and infusions of this medicinal herb help remove pain, inflammation in the mouth, and also prevent the occurrence of caries.

As a rule, caries develops due to poor oral hygiene. It is rather difficult, for example, to clean well the areas between the teeth where food remains are collected. Therefore, in this case it is necessary to use a dental floss, which, unlike a brush, is able to penetrate into hard-to-reach spaces. Brush your teeth at least 2 times a day, and after each meal, try to rinse your mouth. You can also eat an apple or a slice of hard cheese that neutralizes the action of acids harmful to enamel. High fiber foods generally have a beneficial effect on the overall condition of the teeth.

Use toothpaste with a high fluoride content, which strengthens the enamel and makes the teeth resistant to caries. Also use dental elixirs and fluorine-containing gels. Pay special attention to nutrition. If possible, products from the “risk group” should be excluded from the diet, namely: sugar, coffee, carbonated sugary drinks and various candies. Prefer high-calcium dairy products, hard fruits and vegetables. Visit the dentist at least 2 times a year. Even if you do not have complaints, the specialist will be able to detect incipient caries during the examination.

Means and methods for caries prevention

This is the elimination of plaque microorganisms, reduction of sugars in the diet, replenishment of fluoride deficiency in the environment surrounding the teeth.

Conventionally, there are two main types of prevention of the disease: endogenous and exogenous. Endogenous prevention is aimed at strengthening all tissues of the tooth by acting from the inside on the entire body.

The main methods of endogenous prevention:

1 Compliance with the maximum proper diet.

2 Compliance with the basic rules of eating.

3 Targeted use of appropriate drugs for the prevention of caries.

Exogenous prophylaxis includes local methods that affect only the surface of the teeth. More precisely, these are methods:

1 Local (drugs for local prevention of caries, which act directly on the tooth enamel).

2 General methods of caries prevention (drugs that affect the whole body as a whole).

Prevention is divided into the following subspecies:

1 Primary prophylaxis. Aimed at preventing the development of the disease.

2 Secondary prevention of caries. This is the process of treating the disease, as well as its possible complications.

3 Tertiary. Measures to restore the integrity of the dentition, as well as all its functions.

One of the most effective and frequently used methods of local prophylaxis is enamel fluoridation and mineralization.

Careful oral hygiene is especially important for the prevention of dental caries.

Fluoroprophylaxis and remineralization

Fluorine has the most pronounced effect against caries. It is able to inhibit the growth of harmful acid-forming bacteria, and also forms special structures in the tooth enamel, which have a high resistance to the disease. If you think about how to avoid caries, using this method of prevention, pay attention to preparations containing fluorine, namely:

1 tablets for rinsing

2 Fluorinated salt

3 Lucky

4 Special medical toothpaste for caries

In some cases, prevention of caries with remineralizing agents will be very useful.

These tools include special solutions designed to increase the resistance of tooth enamel to pathogenic bacteria. They contain calcium and fluoride. Apply the method of remineralization by using applications directly on the surface of the teeth.

Fissure sealing

We should not forget about the prevention of fissure caries (lesions of the tooth tissues, which are located precisely in the fissures).

Today, the sealing of fissures is considered one of the most popular methods of prevention of the disease under consideration. So, fissures are called natural grooves, which are located on the surface of the chewing teeth between the mounds.

In the process of sealing fissures will be filled with sealants (special substances) that are resistant to the harmful effects of acids. Sealants can be opaque and transparent. The effect of this procedure lasts for about 4-5 years.

Toothpastes for caries prevention

Special toothpastes for the treatment of caries contribute to the strengthening of the mineral tissues of the tooth, as well as prevent the formation of plaque due to the compound of calcium, phosphorus and fluorine introduced into its composition.

The prophylactic and therapeutic effect of special pastes is explained by the fact that fluorides applied topically increase the tooth's resistance to all adverse effects. Fluorine, penetrating directly into the structure of the tooth enamel, suppresses the formation of microflora of the so-called soft plaque, fixes phosphorus-calcium compounds in solid dental tissues and creates the most durable system of fluorapatite. The best toothpaste for caries is a paste that contains calcium and fluoride. Experts recommend consumers to pay attention to pastes such as:

"PRESIDENT Unique" or "PRESIDENT Classic" (Italy);

“SPLAT Biocalcium” (Russia);

SILCA "Herbal Complete" and "Natural Extrakte" (Germany) and others.

Diet and nutrition to protect against caries

Meals should be as balanced as possible. There is no special diet for caries prevention, but you need to follow certain rules. For example, it is recommended to minimize the consumption of products that adversely affect tooth enamel, which include: cakes and chocolate; concentrated juices; soda.

Sour apples should also not be abused. They not only violate the acidity of saliva, but also act in the best way on the stomach.

Eating raw carrots helps protect teeth from caries.

And if we talk about what prevents the formation of caries (or rather what kind of products), then: raw carrots, the consumption of which helps to clean the teeth almost as effectively as with a special paste; green tea prevents the formation of plaque on tooth enamel due to the presence of natural antioxidants and polyphenols; celery has a cleansing effect on the teeth and a massaging effect on the gums; Lime is an excellent source of calcium and fluoride, thereby preventing the occurrence of the disease.

It is necessary to abandon the concentrated fruit juices and sugary carbonated drinks in favor of drinking or mineral water, weak tea.

To increase the use of fermented milk products rich in calcium: cottage cheese, cheese.

At least twice a week, you should eat fish and other seafood containing large amounts of phosphorus and vitamin D.

Sweet dessert is better to replace with fresh solid fruit rich in vitamin C.

With a lack of vitamins and minerals in the diet, multivitamin and mineral complex preparations should be taken.

Of course, this is not all products that are useful and harmful to the health of teeth. The dentist will help you to create the right diet.

Do not forget about the care of the oral cavity after each meal! Dental floss and toothpaste are trouble-free means, but, alas, not always available.

The role of nutrition to prevent caries should not be underestimated. A diet for the prevention of dental diseases includes not only the rejection of sweets, flour products and chocolate. In order to preserve the health of a smile for a long time, you must follow a few rules:

In the daily diet, proteins, fats and carbohydrates must be present in a ratio that is optimal according to age and physical activity. Food should contain fiber, vitamins and minerals.

Great importance is the culture of food itself. You can not eat on the go. Food should be chewed thoroughly. It is also necessary to abandon snacking between main meals, especially if they consist of flour products and sweets.

After eating it is imperative to rinse your mouth. In the absence of such a possibility helps chewing gum. Chewing gum protects against decay due to the fact that it removes food debris, contributes to the abundant production of saliva. And xylitol, which is part of it, neutralizes acid and has a detrimental effect on pathogenic microorganisms.

About chewing gum from caries

Many today are promoting special chewing gum from caries. Of course, it cannot be denied that this is a good marketing move that manufacturers use to increase the sales of their products. But actually, does chewing gum protect against caries?

Chewing gum helps to clean the mouth of bacteria and restore the acid-base balance

The answer to this question can not be unambiguous. Yes, indeed, there are such chewing gum, which, together with other methods help to prevent the occurrence of the disease. The use of gum from caries neutralizes organic acids released during the vital activity of bacteria of dental plaque. Naturally, it should not contain sugar. After all, sugar is the primary cause of damage to the tooth enamel and the occurrence of caries.

But to the question of whether chewing gum helps from caries, the answer will be negative. If the disease already takes place, it is impossible to cure it with the help of chewing gum. This will require the assistance of a qualified medical professional.

Dental caries in young children. How to avoid and what to do with it?

In the previous article, we tried to create a simple algorithm for a home dental program aimed at making your child's smile beautiful and your teeth healthy. Today we will talk about why caries still appear and how to deal with it.

Caries is a disease of the hard tissues of teeth that occurs during and / or after their eruption with the direct participation of microorganisms. Currently, the prevalence of dental caries in young children is very high (on average, 87% of children in Russia have this disease). Therefore, this problem will face almost every mother.

Unfortunately, vaccines or pills against caries do not exist, but following simple recommendations will help to significantly reduce the risk of its occurrence and reduce the number of sick teeth in your children.

So, adopt the following rules:

Try to reduce the ingress of harmful microorganisms in the oral cavity of your child to a minimum. To do this, follow the basic rules of hygiene: the child must have their own dishes for food (plates, cups, appliances). Do not try food with a baby spoon, do not lick the pacifier. Remember: in the oral cavity of an adult, more than 100 species of microorganisms live, do not write off to share them with the baby!
Meals at the child should be strictly regular, and their duration is not more than 20-30 minutes. Correct the situation in which every random visit to the kitchen is accompanied by a “snack”!
Give the child less sweet, do not forget that there are tasty and healthy vegetables and fruits. You can not eat sweets at night or between main meals.
Teach your child to care for their teeth from an early age. Own example is important - all children want to be like parents. Brush your teeth together after breakfast and always before bed.
The choice of toothpaste for children under 3 years old should be stopped on specialized children's toothpastes that do not contain such active ingredients as antiseptics and fluoride. Paste for kids no need to spit or rinse while brushing your teeth. The paste should also not contain bright dyes and strong flavoring additives, since due to the sharp taste and smell, children may not like the procedure being performed.
The best choice is ROCS baby paste. This is a hypoallergenic toothpaste designed to clean the teeth of children from the moment the first tooth appears and up to 3 years old, i.e. until the moment when the child himself learns to spit paste. It contains linden extract - a soft plant component with anti-inflammatory effect (reduces the risk of possible gum inflammation during teething ), xylitol, which protects young baby teeth from bacteria that cause caries, and gives the paste a delicate sweetish taste. The amount of paste needed for one brushing depends on the number of teeth erupted. Usually it is a ball the size of a half or a whole pea.
Choosing a toothbrush is equally important. First, the toothbrush you choose should indicate for what age it is intended (for example, "0-2", that is, from the moment the first tooth appears to 2 years). Secondly, a toothbrush for the smallest should have super-soft bristles (on the package should be indicated: "super soft"). Thirdly, the working part of the toothbrush, i.e. the head with bristles should be small and compact (the size of two milk teeth), and the handle, on the contrary, should be large and voluminous so that the child can more easily and conveniently hold the brush in his hand. Toothbrush replacement should be done at least 1 time in 2 months, as well as in case the child has had a cold or an infectious disease.
Be sure to give your baby vitamin-mineral complexes, corresponding to the age group of your child. The choice of the drug and the duration of its reception should be agreed with the pediatrician and / or children's dentist.
Make sure your child breathes through his nose, because Oral respiration not only leads to the development of the pathology of the bite, but also can cause active reproduction of pathogenic bacteria due to insufficient moistening of the oral cavity!
Regularly visit the dentist (at least 2 times a year). This is necessary, first of all, for early detection of caries and prevention of its complications.

To the content
If you are told that a child has caries, the following treatment options are possible:

Tooth silvering - coating of carious cavities with a special solution containing silver ions. This procedure allows you to temporarily suspend the process of destruction of tooth tissues.

Pros:
Painless method.
Does not demand processing by a drill.
It does not take much time, the child does not get tired.
The treatment can be turned into a game (the child says to draw on the tooth).

Minuses:
Covered with a solution of the teeth often become black (this is a minus for parents. I assure you that children do not complex at all about the color of the teeth, on the contrary, it is an additional subject of pride!).
The need to repeat the procedure every 6 months.
The destroyed hard tooth tissues are not restored, the defect is not eliminated.

Tooth filling - the closure of a defect in hard tooth tissues with a filling after pretreatment. Treatment of the carious cavity can be carried out in the traditional way - with the help of a drill; Chemically-mechanical, when a special gel is introduced into the carious cavity for 20-30 seconds, after which a special hand-made tool, similar to hooks and spatulas, scrape the carious, destroyed tissues. After processing, the defect is closed with a seal.

Pros:
Restoration of lost solid tissue in full.
The ability to put a seal that produces fluoride, i.e. strengthen the tooth and do not allow germs to further multiply on its surface.
Modern seals are durable and do not require replacement.
The treatment can be turned into a game (the child chooses the color of the filling).

Minuses:
Treatment may require anesthesia, the choice of which (local or general (anesthesia)) is determined by age, psycho-emotional attitude, the child's readiness for therapeutic manipulations, as well as the number of affected teeth that need treatment.
The duration of treatment is long enough (at least 15-20 minutes), the child may be tired, close his mouth, start to act up.
High sensitivity of materials to the presence of moisture (primarily saliva). It is necessary for the child to keep his mouth open at all stages of the filling.

Of course, having considered both options, you can refuse treatment, because caries occurs in children most often painlessly. The child does not make any complaints. Unfortunately, without a timely treatment, the process will progress, and sooner or later the tooth will still ache. And no mother in the world is interested in this.

Prevention of caries: no chance of disease

Are you an adult and you have all your teeth in your mouth and no fillings? Congratulations, you are in 2% of the world's population. You can successfully lecture on the topic: " How to keep your teeth from caries ." But this disease has taken a shocking scale: 90% of children with milk teeth, 80% of high school graduates have carious cavities, 95-98% of adults have already turned to a dentist for treatment. What kind of disease it is, where it comes from and how to care for your teeth so that there is no caries , we will tell further.
Types of caries: classification by the depth of the destructive process

Caries is so "popular" due to its cunning - it begins unnoticed, gradually leading to the destruction of hard tooth tissues and the appearance of a cavity.

How is caries formed ? The causes of occurrence are very different, but the main one is dental plaque, which changes the acid-base medium on the tooth surface. It is proved that within a few minutes after eating a candy or a piece of cake, the pH of the enamel drops from 6 to 4. Cariogenic bacteria (acid-forming streptococci) multiply rapidly, and the pathological process begins.

In medicine, there are various classifications of this disease. We'll tell you about the most common: all practicing dentists use it and it is understandable even to children.
How to determine caries by stages of development:

Carious spot - the initial stage of the disease. A “chalky” formation appears on the surface of the tooth - this is the first sign of enamel destruction, although nothing hurts yet and the tooth remains smooth. It is easiest to cure caries at this stage. The doctor removes the stain, conducts remineralization of the enamel (treats the tooth with special means) and infiltration-soaking. If you know how to prevent caries , the disease will not return, but more on that - further.
Superficial caries. The tooth reacts to hot / cold and sweet. The enamel in the area of the chalk spot becomes rough. Dental treatment consists of grinding the surface of the tooth and subsequent remineralization. How to deal with caries , when the stain appeared at the junction of the teeth: the affected area will have to be dissected and put a seal.
Caries in the middle stage affects enamel and dentin, a cavity is formed in the tooth, into which food remains are constantly clogged, which accelerates the development of the disease. The destructive effect of caries becomes noticeable and tangible: from time to time there is severe pain. Classical treatment: treatment of the tooth with drugs and filling.
Deep caries. Pain increases with the size of the hole in the tooth. Even accidental touch causes severe pain. How to stop brown at this stage: remove softened tissues, use remineralizing drugs and put a seal.

If untreated teeth are not treated, pulp infection occurs (nerves and vessels inside the tooth), pulpitis, periodontitis develops.
Teeth safe: effective preventive measures

how to protect teeth from caries

After all this, you probably wondered how to protect your teeth from tooth decay . The approach should be systemic, including several directions.

The correct "menu". In the diet must be products that strengthen tooth enamel:
cottage cheese and milk contain calcium; cheese contains a lot of fluorine;
onion rich in phytoncides - excellent protection against caries;
nuts - a “storehouse” of microelements;
sesame seeds have a lot of calcium;
fluorinated soda, water;
solid fruits and vegetables - saturate the body with vitamins and clean the teeth from plaque.

It should be borne in mind that sweet foods rich in carbohydrates, provokes the development of caries.

Diet. Brush your teeth after every meal. In the morning and in the evening, a brush and paste are used for this. How to protect your teeth from caries when you are not at home: it is advisable not to use sweets as separate snacks. If you can not refrain from dessert, use after dental floss or lotion to neutralize the action of cariogenic bacteria.
Prevention of caries at home. To protect your teeth from the appearance of the disease is possible using the following hygiene products :

treatment-and-prophylactic pastes that promote enamel remineralization;
medium hard toothbrushes;

How to prevent caries in children and adults

Understanding which factors affect the formation of destructive acids, you can make a list of preventive measures. Here's what to do to reduce the risk of caries.
1. Watch what you eat

There are products that especially actively cling to the teeth, creating a nutrient medium for them on bacteria. These are, for example, milk, honey, ice cream, dried fruits, cookies, cakes, hard candies and mints, sweet carbonated drinks. They are difficult to wash off with saliva.

Therefore, it is advisable or not to use such food at all, or to use it only when you are sure that you can then brush your teeth or at least thoroughly rinse your mouth with water.
2. Do not abuse snacks

The habit of endlessly chewing or sipping something feeds the bacteria that live in your mouth. So, you create a permanent "acid bath" for the teeth.

This also applies to children: make sure that they can not candy during the day. And if we are talking about babies, do not leave them to fall asleep in an embrace with a bottle of milk, mixture, fruit drink, juice or compote. Salivation during sleep is inhibited, and these drinks remain on the gums and teeth for a long time.
3. Brush your teeth more thoroughly.

To effectively remove plaque, it is necessary to work with a brush at least The Effect of Brushing Time and Dentifrice on Dental Plaque Removal in vivoTime and Dentifrice on Dental Plaque Removal in vivo 2 minutes. And of course, follow the cleaning technique. How to brush your teeth, Layfhaker already told .
4. Choose toothpaste with adequate fluoride content.

Fluoride strengthens the mineral tooth enamel, and also destroys the population of bacteria. The optimal fluoride content in toothpaste is 1,350–1,500 ppm. Look for this value on the packaging or tube.
5. Avoid dry mouth

Saliva washes away food and bacteria. In addition, it contains substances that neutralize the acids secreted by microbes. If saliva is low, caries becomes almost inevitable.

Drink enough fluids to keep saliva out. Especially if you are pregnant, are engaged in physical labor or are taking medications that affect salivation. There are doubts - consult with the therapist.
6. Monitor the status of seals

Over the years, fillings are destroyed, and hard-to-reach plaque forms on their uneven edges - it is difficult to wash it with saliva or to clean it with a brush. A seal that has begun to break down must be renewed at the dentist.
7. Consult a doctor if you have heartburn.

Heartburn is a situation where part of the gastric juice for one reason or another falls into the esophagus. Hence the accompanying burning sensation. But acid can also reach the oral cavity, helping existing bacteria in tooth decay.

If you regularly suffer from heartburn, look for and eliminate the causes along with the therapist.
8. Avoid eating disorders.

Anorexia and bulimia - a direct path to the accelerated erosion of tooth enamel.
9. Visit your dentist regularly.

Caries develops gradually and at the initial stage can be almost imperceptible. The specialist will be able to detect it in time and, if necessary, prescribe procedures that will be able to stop the destruction of the tooth enamel. It is ideal to go back to the dentist at least once or twice a year.

Prevention of dental caries

It is much easier to prevent the development of caries than to treat this disease. The complex of preventive measures helps to protect the teeth from the negative influence of provoking factors and maintain a healthy and beautiful smile for many years. Our article will tell you how to avoid caries and prevent its recurrence after treatment.

Means and types of caries prevention

Modern science, with the proper use of preventive drugs, guarantees the prevention of caries development in more than 95% of cases. Dentists identify several types of prevention of dental caries:

Primary, the methods of which are aimed at healthy teeth in order to prevent the development of their disease.
Secondary, the purpose of which is the treatment of existing caries and the prevention of its complications.
Tertiary, the main tasks of which are to restore the integrity of the teeth and their functions.

In addition, all methods of prevention are divided into two large groups: general and local.

Профилактика кариеса

Competent prevention of caries will prevent its occurrence in 95% of cases
General methods of caries prevention

These methods are aimed at the whole human body as a whole and include activities:

Proper and rational nutrition.
Strengthening the immune defense by hardening, taking immunostimulants.
Reducing the effects of stress.
Reception of preparations of fluorine, calcium, vitamins.

Local methods of caries prevention

Means for local prevention are applied directly to the teeth and mouth:

Careful and regular oral hygiene.
Reduction in the amount of carbohydrates and acids in the diet.
Use of fluorine-containing preparations and remineralizing agents for rinsing or application.
Sealing fissure.

Diet and nutrition to protect against caries

The role of nutrition to prevent caries should not be underestimated. A diet for the prevention of dental diseases includes not only the rejection of sweets, flour products and chocolate. In order to preserve the health of a smile for a long time, you must follow a few rules:

In the daily diet, proteins, fats and carbohydrates must be present in a ratio that is optimal according to age and physical activity. Food should contain fiber, vitamins and minerals.

Fluoroprophylaxis and remineralization

One of the most effective means for the prevention of carious teeth damage is the use of fluoride-containing drugs. The mechanism of their action lies in the fact that fluorine ions are incorporated into the structure of the tooth enamel and increase its resistance to the action of acids. In addition, fluoride inhibits pathogens, which prevents the appearance of plaque.

Photoprophylaxis can be carried out both in the dental office and at home.

Professional remineralization with fluorine

For professional remineralization of tooth enamel, fluorine-containing gels and varnishes are used, which are applied by the dentist on the cleaned surface of the teeth and form a protective film that is active for 12 hours. The most commonly used products are:

Fluorlac
Composeal
Duraphat

It is necessary to use such remineralization procedures 2-3 times a year.

Another method of fluoroprophylaxis, which are used in dental offices, is the use of fluorine gels for electrophoresis (Belagel F, STAN-GARD). Such drugs under the action of electric current in the tooth enamel replace hydroxyl groups with fluorine ions. Apply such gels with special mouthguards for 3-5 minutes. Procedures are carried out every six months.
Methods of fluoroprophylaxis at home

In order to prevent the development of caries, it is necessary to supply with food a sufficient amount of fluoride. This can be achieved by taking fluoridated drinking water or tableted preparations based on sodium fluoride.

The daily dose of fluoride should not exceed 2 mg. Reception of fluorinated drugs is contraindicated in regions with a high content of this element in the water.

In addition, at home, you can use a solution of sodium fluoride for rinsing the mouth. Every day, after hygienic cleaning of teeth, the mouth is rinsed with a 0.05% solution of the drug for 2-3 minutes. 0.2% sodium fluoride should be used only once a week.
Fissure sealing

Fissures are the frequent place of localization of caries - depressions between the chewing tubercles of teeth, the enamel of which has a lower degree of mineralization. The procedure for sealing fissures is carried out in a dental office and consists of filling in the recesses and pits with special polymer sealants. This protects the enamel from the action of acids and provides caries prevention in 90% of cases.

Toothpastes for caries prevention

Treatment-and-prophylactic toothpastes have a protective effect due to compaction of tooth enamel with minerals, suppression of bacterial growth and the elimination of soft plaque.
Fluoride toothpastes

The anti-caries effect of pastes that contain active aminofluoride is based on the fact that fluorine retains calcium in the structure of enamel and, embedding in it, increases the resistance to adverse factors. Using them twice a day to brush your teeth reduces the incidence of up to 50%.

The best toothpastes for the treatment and prevention of dental caries are:

LACALUT alpin
Shenseen
SPLAT Arktikum
ELMEKS caries protection
SPLAT Siberry
LACALUT fluor

The use of fluoride-containing pastes is permissible only in regions where the fluorine content in water is less than 1.2 mg per liter.

Fluoride Free Toothpastes

If drinking water contains sufficient amounts of fluoride, you should use medical toothpastes for caries without fluoride. Their action is due to the high content of calcium compounds and antibacterial ingredients. They should be used regularly for hygienic cleaning of teeth twice a day.

To fluorine-free anti-caries toothpastes include:

PresiDENT Antibacterial
SPLAT Blackwood
ROCS

Oral Hygiene

A special role in the prevention of caries is played by proper oral hygiene. Simple tooth cleaning is not enough to remove food debris and plaque from the surface of the tooth enamel. In such cases, additional hygiene products come to the rescue: rinses, dental floss, and toothpicks.
Dental floss

Dental floss is the only means that allows you to clean the gaps between the teeth - the place of the most frequent localization of caries. It is made from natural or synthetic fibers impregnated with antimicrobial or fluorine-containing solutions. It must be used at least once a day before evening tooth brushing. The best is its use after each meal.
Mouthwashes

Solutions for the oral cavity with the anti-caries effect are an additional source of fluoride. In addition, they inhibit the growth of pathogenic bacteria and neutralize the acid that destroys enamel. Rinse your mouth with such solutions after each meal and in the evening before bedtime.

Rinses that act against caries include:

Forest Balsam
ROCS
Splat complete
Colgate Plax Comprehensive Protection

Toothpicks

The use of toothpicks is an alternative option when there is no possibility to use dental floss to clean the gaps between teeth after a meal. Your choice should be given to toothpicks made of natural wood or plastic, which have a smooth surface without roughness and a somewhat rounded end. This will prevent gum damage.

It is important to remember that only a dentist with a regular visit can evaluate the effectiveness of preventive anti-caries measures.

How to prevent caries in children

The pain, the reaction to the sweet and cold, ugly black holes ... Why is caries "sharpening" children's teeth? Ahead - a lifetime, and the baby has a seal on the seal. Of course, materials for sealing today there are many, for every taste and wallet. But what other options for saving teeth from dental caries are offered by modern dentistry?

Despite some progress in the prevention and treatment of dental caries, the prevalence and intensity of this disease in children remains very high, even in St. Petersburg. Children's dentists beat the alarm, trying to convey to parents a very simple idea: to treat teeth less often - they need to be protected! Let's see: what, when and how to do to prevent the occurrence of caries was as effective as possible.

Individual hygiene

It is important to carefully and regularly remove dental deposits from the surfaces of the teeth, that is, brush your teeth twice a day - after breakfast and before bedtime, and even better - after each meal. Removal of soft plaque contributes to the natural and faster maturation process of tooth enamel. Mineral components from food, saliva, water penetrate the tooth enamel, bypassing bacterial plaque. Biologically active components that are part of the means of hygiene, enrich the tissues of the teeth and periodontal, thereby increasing resistance to harmful effects. Along with cleansing, the gum brush massage is also useful, since blood circulation in periodontal tissues improves due to the activation of metabolic processes.

Professional hygiene

At the reception, the doctor removes the supra- and subgingival dental deposits from the surface of the teeth, the bacterial film, and polishes all the surfaces of the coronal part of the tooth. Today in children's dentistry, a new small-scale abrasive powder is used to remove plaque. It contains glycine, not soda. The powder gently and carefully removes all deposits; it is used even with hypersensitivity of the teeth, periodontal diseases and mucous membranes; at the same time polishes tooth enamel and saturates with minerals.

The methods of caries prevention in children include: individual oral hygiene; professional oral hygiene; fluoridation and sealing of fissures

In the pediatric dental clinics "Veronika", dentists conduct special hygiene lessons at which children are taught proper oral care and take money for home use.

Method of deep fluoridation of tooth enamel

Known fact: the density of tooth enamel depends on the correct ratio of calcium and fluoride. The deep fluoridation method is used to prevent caries of dairy and permanent teeth. Fluorides, interacting with mineral salts of saliva, provide long-term, deep mineralization of teeth. A high concentration of fluoride and calcium ions provides tooth protection - enamel becomes less permeable to cariogenic germs and their metabolic products.

The method of deep fluoridation of tooth enamel saves not only from caries, but also from hypersensitivity of tooth enamel.

Fissure sealing

The optimal time for sealing permanent teeth - immediately after their eruption. The chewing surface of the tooth is uneven, bumpy. Between these mounds, which account for the main burden when chewing food, there are small grooves. They are called fissures.

If in the period of teething in the area of bumps, the enamel is rather thick and can withstand microbes, then in the area of fissures it is thin and non-mineralized. It is not difficult to guess that the fissure, where food remains are easily accumulated, is a "good" place for the formation of microbial plaques that cause caries. To prevent the development of fissure caries, you can use such a procedure as sealing fissures.

The idea of "sealing" the grooves on the surface of the teeth is not new. In modern materials for sealing additives are used known anti-caries-fluoride substances, which enhances the prophylactic effect.

It is very important to teach the baby to take care of their teeth. Let the rule to brush your teeth every day turns into a healthy habit for the child and becomes an indispensable part of self-care. After all, to prevent the disease is much easier than subsequently to treat it!
