How to adjust the water level in a toilet tank

A toilet that does not have sufficient washing power may need to adjust the water level. Before its exit, the water is carried out in the tank. When the handle is pressed, the discharge valve opens inside the tank, allowing all the water inside to run out. An accessory calls a filling valve then refills the tank. A float connected to the fill valve cuts the water when the water inside the tank is at a predetermined level. Adjusting the water level in a toilet tank can help your toilet achieve its full washing potential.

Instructions

1 Remove the lid of the toilet tank. In a double flush toilet, you have to unscrew the flush button to remove the lid.

2 Determine what type of toilet system you have. The two main types of filler levers are of the float type or the integrated float type. The float can be identified as it uses a large rubber or plastic paddle attached to an arm in the tank. The integrated float is a ring-shaped assembly that is placed around the filling valve.

3 Adjust an integrated float assembly by turning the water level adjustment screw located on the top of the fill valve. Turning the screw to the right decreases the float, which lowers the water level, while adjusting the screw to the left increases the level.

4 Adjusting a float ball assembly by bending down the float connection bar to the fill valve. Bending the rod down decreases the level, while bending upwards does the opposite.

5 Pull the chain. Watch as the water level refills, and then adjust as necessary.

Tips and warnings

  •     If you have a larger ball float type, you may want to think about switching it out for an integrated valve filler assembly. They are cheap and can save water in the long term.
