Talking about condoms is the most common thing in the world. In the pharmacies they exhibit them in a prominent place. And it could not be another way. By now condoms must have saved millions of human lives! Diligent employees illustrate the knights about the benefits and miracles that these gadgets are capable of. In Peru they are used more and more, although not as often as necessary to stop the increase in sexually transmitted infections. After a tour of the main distributors of condoms, here is a detailed list of its different versions. Durex, Piel, OK, Vladi, Gents and Preventor are just some of the almost twenty brands of condoms sold in Peru. Finding the right condom can be more important and pleasurable than you think. This guide will help you make such a difficult decision in an informed manner .

Delaying effect

To delay the male climax, condoms with benzocaine (anesthesia) were manufactured at the inner tip of the condom. This type of condoms is highly valued by Peruvians. The leader in sales of the Durex brand in Peru is the model with retardant. According to the distributor, that does not mean, necessarily, that most Peruvians have premature ejaculation problems, but simply want to prolong the enjoyment of the relationship before ejaculating. A spokesman for the Vladi condom line does not think so, who says that more than 40% of the sexually active male population at some point has suffered from premature ejaculation, a finding that has led them to place retardant in their three presentations. The benzocaína, they assure, allows to prolong the sexual act in a 35%.

Textured

You will find them in all brands and in two presentations. The (bad) calls with spurs (actually they are tiny bumps on the surface of the condom, technically known as "points") and those that have hoops around. Both have been designed so that whoever uses them can provide more stimulation and pleasure to their partner during the penetration. Durex offers the points with the name "Intense Sensation", Ok presents them with "Tachones" and the Gents and Preventor brands call them dotted which in English means 'dotted'. All these bring small dots in relief on the surface of the condom.

The rings on the outer surface of the condom go from end to end. Durex calls this model the "Ultra Sensitive", Vladi calls it "striated" (remember that the latter brand also comes with the retardant effect). OK says "striped" and Skin offers it as "rings", Gents and Preventor bet on the denomination in English and present them as ribbed.

Colors and flavors

Thinking about satisfying the needs of the youth market, some brands offer condoms with different colors, flavors and aromas. They are ideal for fellatio (oral sex), bringing novelty and fun to the experience. Durex offers them with flavors of orange, strawberry and banana and presents them as Tropical; Preventor calls them "Tutti Frutti" and they taste like strawberry, banana and coconut. The most innovative of all is offered by the OK brand, with a chocolate flavor.

Thickness and size

For men to enjoy more condoms are thinner than regular (all distributors say that this feature does not diminish safety). The average thickness of a condom is 0.065mm, the thin ones have an approximate thickness of 0.050mm. Durex and Skin offer it as "Sensitive", Gents as "Ultra Thin" and Vladi as "Nature" (remember once again that this brand additionally brings retardant).

At the other end is the thicker condom for greater protection. In Peru, only the Durex brand sells it and calls it "Extra Safe". It is 20% thicker (approximately 0.080 mm) and is usually used by people who have a genital infection or those who are afraid of catching any disease. They are also used for anal penetrations, although in the distributor they explain that they were not specially designed for that.

Thinking about the comfort of man, Durex created the Comfort model, which offers longer and longer condoms than regular ones. Most condoms have an average width of 5.2 cm and a length of 17.8 cm, the Durex Comfort has a width of 6.3 cm and a length of 20.5 cm.

Regular

The simple presentations of the condom are completely smooth and without any additional treatment, which could, in some cases, cause irritation. Skin, Preventor and Vladi present this variety of condoms as "classics" (once again, remember that Vladi always brings retardant), Durex calls it "Natural" and Gents offers it as plain, which means smooth. In addition, Durex has a new model called "Fire" that comes with internal and external thermal lubricant. It is a lubricant that produces a warmth in men and women, decreasing the feeling that the condom is being used and stimulating the sexual experience.

Female condom

It is made of polyurethane (it is more resistant than latex, material from which male condoms are made). It has two rings, one closed that is placed inside the vagina and another open that covers part of the vaginal lips. The problem is that it is more expensive than the masculine ones and to make it massive it will require a lot of promotion, so, for the moment, you can only find them in the sex shops.

About the brands

Durex has the largest variety of condoms in the Peruvian market. It offers eleven presentations. All their condoms have easy on technology, consisting of a more comfortable anatomical shape on the part of the glans that provides greater comfort. These condoms are manufactured in India and Thailand and sold in boxes of three units at an average price of six soles (it is referential, it can vary a bit depending on the establishment). On the other hand, thinking about sexual well-being, Durex has a line of water-based lubricants and vibrating rings. The vibrating ring is a sex toy that is placed at the base of the penis to produce greater pleasure in both men and women.

The Piel and OK brands are from Apropo, an NGO that works on sexuality and reproductive health issues. Since they do not seek to profit through the marketing of condoms but, on the contrary, make them accessible, the three-unit box borders the three suns. Profit is invested in educational activities and in maintaining social programs. Both brands are Peruvian but condoms are ordered from factories installed in Thailand.

The Vladi brand condoms are manufactured in Spain and have the approval of the demanding quality standards of the European Union. Although the condom box only contains two units and its price is six soles on average, Vladi has a good position within the public of the capital. The box of condoms Preventor (with three units) costs four soles and the Gents (also with three units) are sold for two soles. They are cheap, they are safe and you do not have pleasure. You have no excuse. Use them.

Knocking down myths

Are condoms frequently broken?

DO NOT. If used correctly, condoms do not break. However, they can break if the package is opened with the teeth or if it is in poor condition, that is, the package is broken, expired, has been exposed to the sun or when using lubricants based on oil or petroleum jelly.

Is sex less enjoyable when you use a condom?

DO NOT. The use of condoms does not affect sexual pleasure. This happens in people who have that idea and do not accept the use of condoms. Many couples enjoy their sexual intercourse to the maximum because they feel calm and know that they are protected from an unwanted pregnancy, as well as from contracting an STI or the AIDS virus.

Does HIV pass through the condom?

DO NOT. The HIV virus can not pass through a latex condom. These have a double layer that prevents the passage of any molecule, including the air; thus less can the AIDS virus, which is 1,200 times larger than the air molecule.

Does condom use correct premature ejaculation and improve sexual relationships?

YES. The use of the condom, in certain cases, helps those who suffer from premature ejaculation by allowing the erection to stay longer, thus delaying ejaculation. The use of the condom can improve sexual relations because you can put the condom on the couple as part of the sexual game before penetration, or you could also try the different types of condoms sold in the market.

Only men who have sex with men or sex workers can get HIV and AIDS?

DO NOT. Any relationship that you have without protection can infect an STI. However, there are some risky behaviors, especially when you do not use condoms, which can increase the chances of getting an STI, such as having several sexual partners or relationships with sex workers.

Is a woman "player" or "easy" to use or ask to use a condom?

DO NOT. On the contrary, he is assuming his sexuality responsibly. Relating the condom to prostitution, occasional sexual relations and infidelity has meant that a large number of people and couples still do not decide to use it, and because they are not protected, they run the risk of contracting an STI or HIV.

Is it safer to use two condoms?

DO NOT. Using two condoms is no safer because the friction between the two condoms can make them easier to break; which increases the risk of an unwanted pregnancy or the transmission of an STI or HIV.

When buying a condom remember:

• You must buy them in guarantee sites: pharmacies, drugstores, vending machines, mini-markets, supermarkets or warehouses.

• Must have health registration, date of manufacture and expiration.

• Check that the envelope is not damaged. Before opening it you should feel an air cushion, if you do not feel discard it and use another one.

• Store it in cool places, away from sunlight and heat. Never keep it in your wallet, in your back pocket, or in the glove compartment of your car.

• Do not inflate, stretch, unwind or wash. It is only used once.

• If you want more lubrication use only water-based lubricants, any other product can damage the condom and break it.
