Toilet cisterns, the rectangular containers that contain water that is located on the back of most toilets, are made up of several components that work together to allow the toilet to flush. An important part for the proper functioning of your toilet tank is the float, also called a float.

Definition of flotation
The tank float is typically a balloon-type device that is either attached to or part of a filling valve mechanism. The float rises and falls with the water level in the toilet tank.
Toilet tank parts
In a standard toilet, the reservoir is filled with water, which was carried out in the tank by a rubber liner called a discharge valve. The discharge valve is located in a hole in the bottom of the tank. A filling valve is attached to a water source and is responsible for filling the tank with water. Attached to the discharge valve is the float, which plays a role in opening and closing the filling valve.
How everything works
When you press the handle on the outside of your tank, the relief valve on the bottom rises, releasing the water in the tank to the bottom of the vessel. The water level in the drop tank and the float goes down with it. When the float reaches a certain point, usually near the bottom of the tank, the filling valve attached to the float opens to allow fresh water into the tank. The float rises as the water level and when it comes to returning to its original position the water pressure closes the filling valve so that the tank stops filling.
Modern and traditional tanks
Traditionally, old toilets use a float ball in the tank that is connected by an arm of the fill valve. These are not very durable and tend to run badly, but they are easily replaced by removing the arm and floating and attaching a new one for the valve. In modern bathrooms, the float is part of the filling valve, which moves to a central core. These floats are not so simple as to replace larger float types. You must drain the tank first. Next, look for the screw at the base of this central core and loosen it. Remove the entire fill valve and the float to replace it with a new one.
