How do you take paint from a wooden bed frame?

Taking a wooden bed frame of garbage to be valued not only gives you the satisfaction of doing it yourself, you will have an element to enjoy and perhaps pass on to your children. The most important investment when taking paint out of a wooden bed frame is time, patience and elbow grease. When removing the furniture, follow the instructions of the stripper container. Instructions


1 Prepare the work area, covering the surface of the floor or work with newspapers or a tarp. Place the bed frame at a comfortable working height on a table or easels. Have adequate ventilation to avoid inhalation of vapors. Remove all hardware and set it aside for cleaning.

2 Wear gloves and safety glasses. Pour a small amount of the paint remover into a disposable container - paper from the cake pans work well. Cover the paint remover container.

3 Apply the paint remover to the bed frame with a polyester brush, avoiding the use of natural bristle brushes as the remover will soften the bristles. Apply the remover in a thick layer, brushing in one direction. Allow the paint remover to work for the recommended time. 4 Scrape the old paint from the bed frame with a spatula. Use a file to round the corners of a metal spatula to avoid speculating on the surface of the wood, or use a plastic spatula. Clean the spatula in the newspaper when it is loaded. Use thick steel wool to remove any remover left by the spatula. Apply remover to the areas that still have traces of paint.

5 Clean the remaining remover from the bed frame with lacquer thinner and steel wool. Cleaning the bed frame with lacquer thinner will not raise the grain of the wood.

Tips and warnings

  •     Paint removers that recommend water for removal will raise the grain of the wood and require sanding.
  •     Wear long-sleeved shirts when working with paint remover, as it can burn the skin.
