A double bed provides six additional inches from side to side and an additional five inches in length to that of a double bed. The extra width allows you and your partner to lay side by side without hitting your elbows throughout the night, so you can get a better night's sleep. The extra length makes the bed more comfortable for anyone over six feet tall. The extension of a double bed frame to accommodate a set of marriage mattresses does not have to be complicated.

Instructions
Metal frames with tweezers
1 Look for a clamp along the ends of the head and feet of the chassis.
2 Loosen the clamp to allow the left and right sides of the bed frame to slide apart at the end of the head. Repeat for the end of the plot.
3 Slide the left and right sides of the bed 6 inches apart, which confirms that the right pieces of the left frame and still overlap at least 4 inches.
4 Place the clamp back on the overlapping pieces of the metal structure and tighten it until it does not move from side to side.
5 Cut a 1/2 inch sheet of plywood 60 inches wide and 80 inches long. Place the plywood on the frame, if the frame is of iron angle with the vertical sides of the frame pointing towards the ceiling.
Pilot holes 1/4 inches in diameter 6 holes through the wood and the frame every two inches, an inch from the outer edge of the frame. Start at the right corner of the foot of the bed, on the right side of the head of the bed, on the other side of the left and back to the foot of the bed.
7 Place one washer on each 1/4 inch threaded fender, one 3/4 inch long Allen head screw. Slide the socket head screws into each pilot hole in the bed frame. Add a second fender washer and cover each head screw with a blind nut.
8 Keep each nut closed with a socket wrench while tightening each cap screw with an allen wrench to secure the plywood to the bed frame.
9. Locate the pins and slots in the rails on the head and foot of the bed frame.
10. Locate the pins and fixing slots on the left and right sides of the bed frame together. Push the left and right sides of the frame together to move the pins in the holes in the ends of the slots. Pull the left and right sides of the bed frame apart.
11 Find the second series of holes in the frame. Put the pins through the holes and pull the frame of the bed until the pins go to the ends of the slots.
12 Continue with steps 5 through 8 of the procedure for a metal bed frame with clamps.
13 Center the short part of a sheet of plywood 1/2-by-60-by-80-inch on top of the and even with the head of the bed structure, overlapping the feet of the bed.
14 Mark the width of the bed frame on the head of the bed on the sides and top of the plywood. Draw a chalk line through the 60-inch end of the plywood between the marks on the left and right sides.
Drill 15 1/8 inch diameter pilot holes every two inches, through the plywood and into the frame. Change to a little countersunk. Place the tip of the bit into the pilot holes and drill down at a 90 degree angle about 1/4 inch to countersink the holes.
16 Mark the width of the bed structure at the foot of the bed on the sides and top of the plywood. Draw a chalk line through the 60-inch end of the plywood between the marks on the left and right sides.
17 drill and countersunk holes every two inches at the foot of the bed. Secure the plywood to the bed using 1/4 inch diameter, 1 inch long wood screws.
Tips and warnings
- A head screw located at the level of the surface like a wooden screw; it uses a hexagonal wrench instead of a screwdriver. - Multi-conductors that have a screwdriver handle with interchangeable bits - usually include at least two Allen head bits.
