The marks of a pencil are made by graphite, which is insoluble and resistant to many of the stain removal procedures. However, you can remove pencil spots from a porous surface, such as a porcelain toilet bowl with simple household tools like an eraser and alcohol.
Instructions
1 Remove any excess pencil marks with a soft eraser. A simple white nylon eraser, art eraser or rubber eraser will do it very well. They work especially well if the pencil spot is light and can remove the stain completely.
2 Apply a white toothpaste if the stain remains, and allow several hours for it to dry. Scrub the toothpaste dried using a toothbrush with water and wipe any remaining residue. Use a toothpaste instead of a clear gel.
3 Gently wipe the surface with a cloth or sponge moistened in hot, soapy water. Exfoliate in small circles to avoid contagion of the stain for a larger area of the toilet bowl.
4 Check if the pencil stain is still there, and use a cloth or sponge to apply rubbing alcohol, dry cleaning solvent based on citrus or stain remover if so.
5 Rinse the area thoroughly with water from a spray bottle or damp cloth, and use a sponge to clean the bowl of the dry toilet.
Tips and warnings
- The success of stain removal depends on the length of time the stain has been set and the types of extraction procedures used before.
- If a combination of eraser and alcohol does not do the trick, try other stain removal solutions such as toothpaste, white vinegar, a solution of sodium bicarbonate with water, ammonia or household detergents. Apply the solution to the stain and rub gently with a cloth or sponge to pull the pencil stain off.
- For difficult pencil stains in a slightly colored toilet bowl, you can also wipe off some hydrogen peroxide with a white cloth and rinse with water a few hours later. The hydrogen peroxide acts as a mild bleach to clean the stain.
