How to remove water spots from a toilet bowl

How to remove water spots from a toilet bowl

Stains can appear inside a toilet bowl on the sides and bottom of the container due to the minerals found in the water. When neglected, these spots can get worse over time, and even become extremely difficult to remove. Water spots found inside a toilet bowl can be even harder to remove if the stains are on the bottom of the bowl, where there is always water.

Instructions

1 Turn the toilet bowl shutoff valve (the valve under the toilet bowl) clockwise until it can no longer be turned. Rinse the toilet bowl, and then submerge if necessary in order to remove all the water from the bowl.

2 Pour or sprinkle undiluted white vinegar over the water spots found in the toilet bowl. Leave the white vinegar inside the toilet bowl for 10 to 15 minutes.

3 Moisten the bristles of the toilet brush with hot water from the tap.

4 Scrub the areas of the toilet bowl covered by water spots. Scrub harder in places where there are more spots.

5 Pour or spray tap water into the toilet bowl to rinse it. Then rinse the toilet brush with water from the washing tap, and scrub the inside of the toilet bowl one more time.

6 Repeat steps 2 to 5 until the water spots are no longer visible. Turn the shutoff valve on the toilet bowl back to "On" and rinse to rinse the container one more time.

Tips and warnings

  •     If water spots are found near the bottom of the toilet bowl, you can also pour a couple of cups of undiluted white vinegar into the toilet after you have turned off the toilet's shut-off valve. Leave the vinegar inside the toilet overnight, then scrub with a wet toilet brush the next morning.
