Removing calcium rings in Kohler toilets
Normally, mild abrasive cleaners can clean the vitreous china from Kohler bath bowls. Strong cleaners will not only damage the surface, also remove the luster from the cup surface. Kohler reports using a stronger cleaner to cope with hard water deposits such as calcium rings that accumulate over time. Products such as Lysol bath cleaner are recommended by Kohler to clean the toilet, consider another Lysol product, or a similar product designed for hard water stains on the calcium ring.
Instructions
• Shut off the Kohler toilet water by turning the shutoff valve behind the toilet completely to the right. Wash the toilet. The container does not fill with water, so the water level will be lower. Wash a second time to further reduce water.
• Lift the toilet seat. Apply a commercial cleaner that removes hard water deposits directly into the calcium ring inside the container. Cover the water line ring and the series of the rim holes above inside the bowl.
• Allow the cleanser to sit quiet for about 10 minutes. Leave the seat up during this time.
• Scrub the surface of the entire inner container, focusing on the holes in the rim and toward the calcium ring in the water line. Use a nylon brush to clean the bowl. Switch to a plastic bristle brush, if the nylon brush is not effective in washing the calcium rings.
• Twist the valve to the left and allow the tank to fill with water. Wash the toilet so the bowl cleaner is removed.
