Natural products to clean hair

With growing concern about synthetic chemicals and their health effects, many people are looking for alternatives to commercial products for hair and body care. Synthetic shampoos are one of the products for hair care that have been subject to scrutiny and questioning, especially those that contain lauryl, sodium sulfate and other related surfactants. Although it may seem that these synthetic shampoos are the only option for hair care, there are plenty of natural alternatives to clean hair, even some that you can not imagine.

Raw egg beaten

According to the nutritional scientist, author and defender of raw foods, Dr. Aajonus Vonderplanitz, raw egg whipping is a good alternative to shampooing. Be sure to apply it to the entire hair and scalp and let it work for one to five minutes before washing. This works like a hair conditioner, too.

Water with vinegar

Applying a combination of a high quality vinegar, such as organic raw apple cider vinegar and water on the scalp is another alternative way to clean the hair. The combination provides nutrients that support hair health, helps maintain the slightly acid pH of healthy hair, is antibacterial and softens the hair, allowing water to penetrate more effectively. It also acts as a hair conditioner.

Lemon water

Similar to vinegar, lemon juice is also antibacterial and, in combination with water, maintains the pH of healthy hair, resulting in a softer hair that allows water to clean it with less resistance.

Soft water

Water is known as the universal solvent. As such, water can clean the hair very effectively. If the water is hard it is a little more complicated. When it comes to cleaning your hair, hard water will work against you, up to a point. This is because the high content of minerals present in hard water makes the hair rough and decreases the ability of the water to penetrate and clean it. This can be resolved by using a shower or softener filter, allowing water to enter and remove dirt and grime from your hair.

Natural soap

The soap was the original shampoo before the synthetic shampoos were created. The soap only acts as a surfactant that reduces the surface tension of the water allowing it to penetrate and clean the hair more effectively. Keep in mind, however, that the use of natural soap with hard water to clean the hair can cause some soap residue to remain on the hair and on the scalp. If you plan to use soap to clean your hair, make sure your local water supply is soft or buy in a good quality shower filter or fabric softener.
