How to remove lime stains from the toilet bowl

How to remove lime stains from the toilet bowl

If the water in your home is hard, you will notice a rough and whitish substance in your toilet bowl. This is accumulation of lime. The scale of lime results from the remaining deposits of hard water. The buildup of lime scale on the toilet bowl makes the toilet dirty and stained. You can remove lime scale from the toilet bowl with common household items.

Instructions

  1. Remove as much water as possible from the toilet bowl. Close the valve behind the toilet to stop the flow of water. Pull the chain a couple of times until the cup is empty.
  2. Clean the inside of the toilet bowl with toilet cleaner. Apply a generous amount of cleaner and scrub the bowl with the toilet brush. This will make part of the lime stains come out but it probably will not remove everything. Throw a bucket of clean water into the bowl to rinse the cleaner.
  3. Throw 1 gallon (3.78 l) of white vinegar into the toilet bowl. If this is not enough to cover all the lime deposits, wet paper towels and vinegar and place them on the lime stains. Leave the vinegar in the toilet bowl all night.
  4. The next day, remove the paper towels. Use the brush to clean toilets and skirmish to remove lime deposits that have become loose. Clean the toilet by throwing a bucket of water into the toilet bowl. Inspect the toilet bowl to see if there is any lime stain.
  5. Use borax powder if the spots do not come out. Spray a good amount of borax directly on the affected areas of the toilet bowl. Leave it for 30 minutes and then scrub with the toilet brush. Rinse the cup with a bucket or two of water.

Tips

  • Chlorine bleach can also be used to remove limescale. Pour 1/2 cup of bleach into the toilet bowl or soak paper towels in bleach and place them on top of the lime stains. Leave the product on the spots several hours before scrubbing the cup and rinse it with water.
  • Do not forget to reopen the water valve when you have finished cleaning.
  • Use a toothbrush to clean toilets that has plastic bristles so the cup does not get scratched.
  • Use rubber gloves when using bleach to protect your skin.

Warnings

Never mix chlorine bleach with ammonia or products that contain these ingredients since the result can be toxic.
