7 good reasons to collect your dog's feces

So you are the proud mother of a child. Do you like to play and walk with him? Of course they are unforgettable moments, but we have a doubt, what do you do when your hairy angel makes the bathroom in the street or the nearest park? Do you pick up their stools or leave them there for the Clean Service to take care of them?

If you are the one who chooses the second option, we ask you to read each word of this note with great attention. We are sure that after doing so you will change your mind.

You must take into account that your dog is not the only one that lives in the City. According to the calculations of the authorities, the canine population of the capital goes from 3 to 4 million dogs, of which 30% are stray.

Together, all these hairy angels produce, on average, 500 tons of feces a day. If we take into account that many owners do not raise the excrement of their pets, the vast majority stay there, contaminating the air we breathe.

Although we are sure that after reading that number you have begun to reassess your position on your dog's feces, we want to give you seven good reasons to raise them:

  1. Air. Specialists in environmental policy estimate that every year, each inhabitant of Mexico City inhales 1.5 kilograms of feces. Obviously, this figure will increase depending on the growth of the dog population. How much more do you want to breathe?
  2. Respiratory tract. By inhaling this organic matter you can develop respiratory diseases, such as allergies, asthma, tuberculosis and pneumonitis.
  3. Skin. When in contact with your skin, the bacteria present in the dog feces can cause some infections and / or diseases, such as scabies.
  4. Stomach. Since there is no way to prevent stool particles from reaching the food you eat (especially on the street), do not be surprised if you have gastrointestinal discomfort, or develop a more severe disease such as amoebiasis, cholera or salmonella.
  5. Infectious diseases. You can present brucellosis, leptospirosis, toxoplasmosis, rabies or viral hepatitis.
  6. Dog. By being in constant contact with feces, his or other animals, your pet can acquire a gastrointestinal infection that will easily infect you.
  7. Fines The Law of Civic Culture of the DF establishes that those who do not collect the excrement of their pets are entitled to a fine ranging from 11 to 20 Account Units of Mexico City (71.68 pesos, so you would have to pay between 788 and 1,433 pesos), or an arrest from 13 to 24 hours.
