Can I make a Queen Size bed frame fit a full size bed?

There is no better alternative to scrapping a piece of old furniture than finding a new function or purpose for it. When reducing a queen to a full-size bed - smaller space or perhaps it was a gift or an inheritance - make some simple adjustments to make your queen bed frame fits your full-size bed.

Adjust the mattress metal frame

Some beds have two metal mattress support bars on both sides that connect to the headboard and footboard. Other beds have a four-sided metal mattress support frame that adapts to different widths to support a twin, full or double bed.

For the bed with a wooden headboard and footboard and two metal mattress support bars, check to see if the support bars are adjustable and can be adjusted from 80 inches for a double bed to 75 inches for a full size bed. If they are not adjustable, purchase two new full-size mattress support bars at a furniture store.

Unscrew the screws that attach the support bars to the head and foot joints and then mark the position of the new holes for a full size bed. Space uniformly the marks for the screws of the centers, both of the head and the foot of bed. Drill new holes of the same size and aligned with the old ones to connect the hardware through these new holes.

Place the box spring on the metal support rods and then place the mattress on top. The difference of 6 inches - or 3 inches on each side - between the width of a full and a double bed may not be very noticeable once the bed is dressed with bedding and cushions.

The double frame of the four-sided metal bed that adjusts to the variable width is very easy to mount on a full-size bed. After removing the marriage mattress and the box spring, push the armor inward from the mattress support foot to adjust its length to 75 inches. Push the frame inward on one of its sides to adjust it from 60 inches to 54 inches. Immobilized in place if the frame has a locking mechanism, and then place the mattress on top.

Adjusting a bed platform

If you have a double platform bed whose top extends more than the base of the frame, there may be enough inches along both sides to reduce the excess down to a full-size bed. Mark 3 inches from the side edge of the head, middle and foot of the bed, along each side of the bed. Use a long straight edge to draw a line to connect these marks. Use a circular saw to cut away 3 inches on both sides of a platform bed frame. Reinforce the structure of the frame with wooden uprights and wood glue and key to a wooden trim to hide the cut edges.
