Bradford Cal King Dark Copper Gold Bed Frame

How to make a king-size bed frame Tall

Due to their large size, king beds are often made with short legs or in a platform style. If you want the luxury of a king-size bed, but still want a reasonably high bed frame, then you always have the option of making the bed yourself. Bed legs that are made to fit around the corner of the bed frame are ideal for a double height bed, as they offer the necessary support on all four sides of the bed frame, while still looking like the solid legs.

Instructions

Making the rail frame for bed

1 dispose two 84 inches and two 76-inch planks of 2-by-10 lumber in a rectangular frame, with the ends of the boards 76 inches on the inside edge of the 84-inch boards. The 76-inch boards are the head and foot boards, the 84-inch boards the side rails of the bed frame. Glue the joint frame in the corner joints.

2 Drill three pilot holes, evenly spaced and dimensioned for 3-inch wood screws, through the side rails at the ends of the head and foot boards and attach the railing frame together with 3-inch wood screws through the pilot holes.

3 Center an 80-inch wood plank of 2 by 6 between the head plates and the feet; which must be parallel to the side rails and level with the lower part of the frame. This is the central support table for the slats of the bed. Secure the support board in position with three 3-inch wood screws through the head and foot joints at each end of the support beam.

4 Position an 80-inch plank of lumber 1-on-2 inside the side rails of the bed, 4 inches from the top of the frame. This should be level with the upper part of the central support. These are the side slat supports. Secure them in place with 1 1/2-inch wood screws through the side support planks every 5 to 6 inches along their length.

Make legs

5 Miter one of the edges of 22 inches of 8 planks of 22 inches of 2 by 6 wood at 45 degrees. Divide the planks in pairs, and pair the miter edges of each pair so that they form a corner.

6 Glue the miter edges together and fix the four pairs of corner pliers to dry. These are the legs of the bed, and they will be fixed on each corner of the railing frame.

7 Insert a corner bracket into each leg, flush with one end of the legs, and secure with 1 1/2 inch screws through the screw holes in the brackets. Place a second support on the inside of each leg 11 inches from the bottom of the legs and fix it there as did the first.

Positioning of the legs

8 Turn the railing frame upside down so that the side slat supports are closer to the ground. Assemble each leg unit over one of the corners of the railing frame and push down so that the upper legs are flush with the top of the railing frame. The end of the legs with the corner bracket must be in the air, and the middle corner bracket will sit just above the level of the bed structure.

9 Fix the legs in position with G-clamps. Drill four pilot holes, one size for 3-inch leg bolts, through each side of the legs into the railing frame. Pilot holes should be placed as the number "four" appears on the sides of the dice.

10 Place the legs up to the bed frame with 3-inch wood screws through the pilot holes you drilled. Remove the G clamps, then turn the bed back up in the correct manner; Now he is standing on the newly connected legs.

Placing the slats and finishing

11 uniformly space 18 planks of 76 inches wood of 1 by 4 through the structure of the bed for the slats of the bed. They should be resting on the side supports and center support, and have a clearance of approximately 1/2 inch apart. Secure the slats with 1 1/2-inch wood screws through each end on the side supports, and through the middle on the center support.

12 Fill all the screw holes visible on the outside of the frame of the legs and the bed with wood putty and scrape the flat putty with a putty scraper. Let dry.

13 Sand the bed with a sander, then finish the bed on the wood finish of your choice. If you want to stain the bed, stain the boards before mounting the bed, as this will allow a more uniform stain.

Tips and warnings

  •     If there are narrow stairs or corridors where you want to use the bed, consider mounting the bed in the bedroom, as a maneuver for the large bed will be more difficult once mounted.
