Boyd Sleep Montana Upholstered Platform Bed Frame with Headboard: Linen, Grey, King

How to expand a full size bed frame with a queen size

A full-size bed might be fine for one person, but it can be crippling if two people need sleep. If you like the look of your full-size headboard, but want more space to sleep, buy a converter kit that leaves room for a double mattress. The kits are fairly easy to install, and can be removed if you want to use your full-size mattress again.

Instructions

1 Remove the bed, removing the mattress, mattress, slats and rails. Take a look at the lanes to determine how they connect to the header and foot. If you stick with hooks, you need a converter kit with hooks. In the same way, if the rails are joined with screws, you will need a converter kit that is connected with bolts.

2 Buy a converter kit. You can find one at many specialty mattress stores or mattress stores. Be sure to buy one that adheres correctly to your head and foot, either by hooks or screws.

3 Attach the converter rails to your header and foot. If the rails have hooks, gently slide them into the headboard and bed foot of slots until they snap into place. If the rails remove, tighten securely, without squeezing too much.

4 Find the middle support rails. There is one in the middle of each lane. Pivot outward so that they meet in the center, forming a long band that extends across the width of the bed structure. Connect the two lanes together with the hardware provided in the converter kit. Then, turn the medium support leg to extend so that it only almost touches the ground, with about 1/4 inch to spare.

5 Install the side supports. These are four supports, two for each rail, that hold the mattress and the mattress in place. Most likely bolt on the use of hardware and holes that were drilled in the rails of the factory included.

6 Place the mattress and mattress on top of the rails, and center them on the rails. They hang on each side a few inches. Adjust the side supports so that they hold the box spring securely in place.

Tips and warnings

  •     Save and store your full-size mattress and box springs, and the original rails of your bed and slats, if you believe you can convert them back to full size someday.
