1. What is Medebiotin Strong Solution and what is it used for

Biotin, the active component, belongs to the group of water-soluble vitamins of group B.

Medebiotin Strong solution is indicated in treatment of deficiency states of biotin or when there is an increase in the needs of this vitamin, in adults and children.

Biotin deficiency can produce symptoms of seborrhoeic dermatitis (rash on the skin with inflammation and scaling), alopecia (hair loss) or glossitis (inflammatory lesion of the tongue). Biotin needs may be increased in cases such as patients on prolonged treatment with antiepileptic drugs and in parenteral (non-digestive) diet not adequately supplemented. It is also indicated in treatment of alterations of biotin metabolism.


2. Before using Medebiotin Strong Solution

Do not use Medebiotin Strong solution

  •     if you are allergic (hypersensitive) to biotin.
  • Take special care with Medebiotin Strong solution
  •     The recommended doses should not be exceeded.



Use of other medications

Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking or have recently taken any other medicines, including medicines obtained without a prescription.

If you are taking any medication for epilepsy, you may decrease the level of biotin in your blood.



Pregnancy and lactation

Consult your doctor or pharmacist before taking any medicine.

The recommended intake of biotin through the diet is about 30 micrograms / day in pregnancy and 35 micrograms / day in lactation.



Driving and using machines

Medebiotin Fuerte does not affect your ability to drive or operate machines.



Important information about some of the components of Medebiotin Strong solution

This medicine contains less than 23 mg (1mmol) of sodium per ampoule, so it is considered essentially "sodium-free"



3. How to use Medebiotin Strong Solution

Follow exactly the instructions for the administration of Medebiotin Fuerte indicated by your doctor. Ask your doctor or pharmacist if you have doubts.



Medebiotin Fuerte can be administered intramuscularly, although at the doctor's suggestion it can also be used intravenously and also orally, mixing the contents of the ampoule with liquids or porridges.



The normal dose is:

Adults

  •     In case of deficiency with dermatological symptoms: 5 mg per day (one ampoule), usually orally.
  •     In metabolic alterations: 10 mg per day (2 ampoules) is recommended, although the dose could reach up to 40 mg per day depending on the type of deficiency. The maintenance dose is 5 to 20 mg per day, although doses up to 40 mg or more may be necessary depending on the intensity of the condition.



Use in children

  •     In newborns with deficiency, 5 mg per day (one ampoule) is recommended orally or slowly, adjusting the dose according to the response obtained; older patients may require 10 mg per day.
  •     In alterations of biotin metabolism: in general 5 to 10 mg per day or less are recommended, but it may be necessary to increase the dose to 20 mg per day or more, depending on the deficiency. The usual maintenance dose is 5 to 20 mg / day.



All indicated doses may be modified at the doctor's discretion, depending on the intensity of the condition.

The doctor will indicate the duration of treatment with Medebiotin Strong according to the evolution.



If you use more Medebiotin Strong solution than you should

If you use more Medebiotin Strong than your doctor has indicated, you may not have symptoms because toxic reactions to biotin have not been observed in people.

In case of overdose consult your doctor or pharmacist immediately or call the Toxicological Information Service, telephone 91 562 04 20, indicating the medication and the amount used.



If you forgot to use Medebiotin Strong solution

Do not use a double dose to make up for forgotten doses.



If you have any further questions about the use of this product, ask your doctor or pharmacist.


4. Possible adverse effects

Like all medicines, Medebiotin Fuerte can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.

Adverse reactions are generally infrequent, mild and transient. Allergic reactions and gastrointestinal upset can rarely occur.

5. Conservation of Medebiotin Strong Solution

Keep out of reach and sight of children.

Do not use Medebiotin Fuerte after the expiration date on the package after EXP. The expiration date is the last day of the month indicated.

It does not require any special storage conditions.

Medications should not be disposed of through drains or trash. Deposit the containers and medicines that you do not need in the SIGRE Point from the pharmacy. If in doubt, ask your pharmacist how to get rid of the containers and medicines you do not need. This way you will help to protect the environment.


6. Additional information

Composition of Medebiotin Strong solution

  •     The active substance is Biotin.
  • Each ampoule contains 5 mg of sodium biotin (equivalent to 4.6 mg of biotin).
  •     The other ingredients are: sodium hydroxide and water for injections.



What the product looks like and contents of the package

Medebiotin Fuerte is an injectable solution that can also be administered orally (see section 3) and is presented in amber glass ampoules with 1 ml of solution.
Each pack contains 10 ampoules.
Medebiotin Strong tablets.
