As we all know, dust is hiding everywhere and the fastest way to prevent your favorite books from reaching their pages is to place them backwards. However, a good cleaning should be performed at least once a year, as this is extremely useful for prolonging the intervention period and preventing moth attacks. As a reference, here is a guide with some useful tips. Speak Clear Books Clear Books.

Necessary :

Soft or antistatic cloth
until Absor
White vinyl rubber
vacuum cleaner
Sodium bicarbonate
Paper bag
Liquid paraffin
White Cloth
Paper bags
Canvas and cotton pad
Start with cover

To begin this important work of cleaning books, start the cover using a soft cloth or a dry cleaning pad (available in Fine Arts stores). Instead, if the book is tied into the skin, apply liquid paraffin with a soft cloth over the cover and polish it again until it becomes new. If the cover is bright, you can use a glass cleaner, but first spray it on a cloth. Use Absoren instead for fabric cover (a substance that you will find in the art shops). In particular, apply a small amount to the surface to collect the accumulated dust or rub it as if it were an eraser.

Use bread gum
To clean the edges of the pages of an old book, use rubber bread or a natural bristle brush instead. You can get an antistatic cloth, among other things, but make sure it is not chemically treated as it can damage the paper. On the other hand, if you decide to vacuum the book, be sure to remove the coating and place it upside down so that there is no way for the dust to spread between the pages. If the book is too old and therefore fragile, place a piece of gauze between the vacuum cleaner pipe and the book to reduce suction. Finally, if the sheets have smudges or stains, you can use white vinyl rubber to remove them, but you can use them without using too much pressure to avoid tearing or puncturing. Alternatively, create a cotton wool cloth pad soaked in wet sodium bicarbonate. The lightly abrasive effect of this product helps maximize the result without structural damage to the pages on which the books are created.

Put books in paper bags
Undoubtedly, keeping books in damp places can cause mold and mold to grow, multiply, and thus create bad odors. In this case, there are other important precautions to be taken after cleaning with the materials recommended in the previous steps of the manual. The first thing to do is actually transfer the books to a more dry environment, beware because if they are moldy, they can transfer the fungal spores to new ones. In this context, the recommendation is to put them in a paper bag containing a small amount of baking soda and allow this product to work for about 10 days to shake the bag from time to time. As an alternative to baking soda is to use wood chips and especially cedar wood, especially by applying them to the book pages with the above-mentioned pad, which you create with canvas and cotton cloth.
