Means for the dishwasher: what manufacturers hide from us?

Imagine taking care of a home without household chemicals these days is almost impossible. Special cleaning formulas exist literally for everything from the floor to the eaves. Given that we regularly use household chemicals, we do not trust them, and even fear. Still, chemistry! Most doubts are traditionally caused by means for washing and washing dishes. The first, Roskontrol checked repeatedly, and, alas, the results justified the most pessimistic forecasts. This time the most famous dishwasher products went to the lab.

Participated in the examination: powders Somat and Finish , tablets Frosch , Frau Schmidt and capsules Fairy. After analyzing the research results, the experts were able to answer the most important questions that bother everyone who washes the dishes in the dishwasher.

What is the difference and what is the similarity of the tested samples?

The first, most obvious difference is the release form. The advantage of tablets and capsules is that they already have everything necessary for high-quality dishwashing: both salt and rinse aid, and the actual detergent. Falling asleep in the machine powder, you should add at least salt to soften the water, and better salt and rinse. On the side of powder means - profitability. They are cheaper and less expensive. If you compare the claimed composition of funds, it is about the same. It is somewhat different from other samples of Frosch, marked with the Ecolabel sign and positioning itself as a tool with a “limited content of hazardous substances”. It contains no phosphates, but quite a lot of oxygen-based bleaching agents.
Does the claimed composition actually match?

The main active ingredient of detergents are surface active substances (surfactants). Of the non-ionic (non-ionic) and anionic surfactants, the former are considered less aggressive to the tissues, the human body and the most gentle to the environment, due to 100% biodegradability. The labels of all participants in the test indicate the content of non-ionic surfactants, and not a word is said about anionic. Meanwhile, the examination found that labeling is misleading consumers. When assessing washability in the laboratory, the residual amount of anionic surfactants was detected. Based on this, all samples are included in the list of goods with comments , Roskontrol is waiting for clarification from manufacturers regarding this discrepancy.

Damir Yarlushkin, expert of Roskontrol: “Anionic surfactants are much cheaper and more efficient, which means it’s more profitable to produce and easier to sell funds based on them. But non-ionic surfactants are considered to be more benign for humans and the environment. Considering the above, manufacturers could consciously specify as part of some substances instead of others, then it is nothing more than a deception of consumers who themselves have the right to decide what they choose: environmental friendliness or efficiency. "
Can these agents be considered hazardous?

We hasten to reassure: if you use the product for its intended purpose and in full accordance with the instructions, there is no health risk! The experts came to this conclusion after analyzing the residual amount of surfactants in the washes from the treated surfaces. This indicator shows how much money remains on the dishes after washing and rinsing.

Absolutely all samples fit into the existing standard, and with a large margin, and can be considered safe for humans. Somat powder showed the best result in this test .
What tool washes the dishes best?

In order to answer this question, in the laboratory of Roskontrol they washed 5 sets of dishes stained with mayonnaise, raw eggs, minced meat, ketchup, mustard, fruit juice with pulp and oatmeal with milk. The tests were carried out in the same conditions - on the same dishwasher, with partial loading. Before washing the dishes, the dirt was allowed to dry slightly, to bring the conditions as close as possible to the real ones. The detergent was loaded according to the instructions and in the dosages prescribed by the manufacturer for washing heavily soiled dishes. Powdered detergents were used in conjunction with a softening salt and rinse, after preparation a long cycle of intensive washing was started.

The safest sample was the least effective. The dishes, washed with the help of Somat, had to be partially hand-made. Especially a lot of dirt left on the cutlery. Slightly better, but also imperfectly, coped with the task of the Frosch and Frau Schmidt pills . Fairy capsules and Finish powder showed almost flawless results .
The safest sample turned out to be the least effective.

Damir Yarlushkin, expert of Roskontrol: “I would like to point out two important aspects that directly affect the efficiency of dishwashing detergents. Firstly, this is proper storage. Most of the products are hygroscopic, absorbing moisture, they can lose their consumer properties, and therefore should not be in a wet room, as well as get under direct sunlight. The second aspect is the amount of dishes in the car during washing. Ideally, the load should be fairly free, about two-thirds of the declared production "In this case, the efficiency and the means, and the machine itself will be higher, and the dishes will be washed better."
