Why doesn't my lawn mower start?
When the lawn mower does not start, it can be frustrating. There may be several reasons for this problem. Problems with mowers are divided into two categories: ignition problems and motor problems. Often the cause of the problem is less and can be solved quickly by any owner. If you know what you're looking for, you can eliminate the cause or the many possibilities that make the mower not start. There are basic issues, such as gas and oil, and less common elements, such as blockage and freezing controls, which can often be arranged by the homeowner.
Solve the basics
When the mower does not start, there are three places you should check first: gas and oil, spark plug and ignition controls. These are the three main reasons why a lawn mower will not start. To avoid these problems, fill the fuel tank before you start. Check the oil to make sure it is not burnt (black) or needs to be filled. Make sure the shutter is in the correct position and the motor controls are set to the initial position. Also, make sure the spark plug wire is tightened to the plug.
What to review below
Sometimes the ignition wiring or the cables are loose or disconnected, so they must be checked. Also, check the following:-Is there something blocking the engine from turning? Small debris can get into the engine. -The carburetor or air filter may be clogged. Remove the cover from the case where they are and check for dirt, excess petrol or oil, or even dead bugs. -The safety mechanisms for the brake or the closing of the motor may be stuck in the closed position, which will close the circuit to allow the mower to ignite. -Is the mower in the proper gear if it has gears? Most cutters must be in neutral or parked to begin.
More complex issues
Check the ignition time by removing the spark plug and placing it so that the hexagonal end of the spark plug touches the engine block. Try to start the engine looking for a spark or hear if there is a click from the spark plug. Check the cords to charge the battery at the start of the trimmer. With the motors starting with magnets, check the position of the magnet to see if it has slipped. Also check for oil leaks. This could be a more serious problem if leaks are found.
