In addition to alcohol that softens the skin, you can also use white wine vinegar. Vinegar placed on a cotton pad can be applied directly to most skin areas: it softens and makes the skin softer.

The last option is to buy a special product which is shoe expander. Plastic ones are cheaper, but the best ones are wooden ones, although they are a bit more expensive.
