Natural ingredients to clean tile grout

Natural ingredients to clean tile grout

Tile Grout Cleaning is an essential part of any household cleaning routine, as dirt and dust have an ideal resting place within the sensitive porous grooves between the tiles. When your grout is attacked, you do not need to use commercial cleaning products with long lists of confusing and potentially damaging ingredients. You can get the work done with natural ingredients.

Grout Cleaner Product

Sodium bicarbonate

Sodium bicarbonate has the ability to penetrate the grout and eliminate stubborn stains, all without presenting a stress in the environment. Create a thick paste of baking soda by mixing 3/4 cup of baking soda and 1/4 cup of water. Use a toothbrush or fine brush to work the dough in the grout and rub the surface with total accuracy and control. For best results, wait 15 minutes and then rinse.

White vinegar

White vinegar (sometimes called distilled vinegar) is another natural, environmentally friendly cleaning agent on grout. Acetic acid contains anti-fungal properties, so vinegar is especially useful for moldy grout. Since acetic acid also dissolves mineral deposits, you may also want to use it if your grout shows signs of hard water or rust spots. Sprinkle the vinegar directly over the grout and wait 15 minutes before scrubbing and rinsing. Do not use vinegar in grout that surrounds natural stone such as marble or granite, but do not hesitate to use it in porcelain, ceramics, quarry or synthetic tile grout.

Bleach Oxygen

Oxygen bleach is the environmentally sound alternative to chlorine bleach. Oxygen bleach contains no chemicals or toxic gases and uses only natural oxygen ions to dissolve dirt, minerals, soap residues and mildew. Normally available in powdered forms, chlorine should be mixed with water according to the manufacturer's instructions before spraying or pouring over the grout. By a natural liquid alternative to the oxygen bleach, use hydrogen peroxide diluted with water in equal parts. Hydrogen peroxide is a similar natural whitening agent.

Ammonia

Ammonia, usually sold in large plastic bottles as "clear ammonia," is natural and useful for cleaning the grout. While you can get some results by mixing a cup of ammonia with a gallon of water, you will need to mix it with other natural ingredients to create a really powerful cleaning solution. Try to mix 7 cups of water, 1/3 Cup of ammonia, 1/2 cup of baking soda and 1/4 cup of white vinegar, as recommended by Mrs. Clean USA.
